Surgery Is the Only Option
The next day, Thursday, September 25th I had the MRI done. Monday afternoon I got the results - I tore my patellar tendon! :( Which means my leg was just hanging and disconnected to the rest of my leg, which is why I couldn't bend my leg. The doctor told me that surgery is the only option and if we didn't do it ASAP, I would never regain the use of my right leg again!
Suddenly, I'm scheduled for surgery for the end of the week, Friday, October 3rd. Was I scared? Actually, no, I wish we could do it the next day and move on!! But on Tuesday, I met with the surgeon and he said my tendons looked good so he was hopeful that he could reattach them to my knee. My major concern was if my knee would be strong enough to attach it - my bone density isn't the best. He told me that we had no choice, it must work! OK, let's get this done! Oh, and if I hear the phrase "wow, you have severe arthritis" after reviewing x-rays/MRI, I'm going to scream - duh, I know that, HA! ;)
Friday, October 3rd was here and David and I were at the surgery center at 6 AM! The surgery went fine and I was given a walker to help get around. The anesthesia took a toll on me and I was taking pain pills every 4 hours! I also had a cold therapy machine to keep the knee iced. My mom flew in on Saturday to help us out for a week and a half, what a blessing! :)
For the first week, all I could do was sleep, throw up and sleep. Slowly, I've been able to hobble with the walker. On October 9th, I had my post-op and it looks like all is healing well, yay!! :)
But, Im still in my thigh-high leg immobilizer and it's driving me stir crazy!! So, yes, I've struggled to stay positive, sigh...It's even been very hard on my husband :( Trust me, we both know that in the whole scheme of things, we are fine but it gets overwhelming!! Camry has been our sunshine and we've totally spoiled her (cuddles on the couch with us), shshsh, don't tell! ;)
It's been almost 5 weeks since my fall and I'm hoping that I get the all clear to begin physical therapy on Thursday, October 30th. I'm trying to bring back the positivity and hope you will send your positive thoughts/energy for good news this week :D
