i occurs to me re: Camila letting her sci-fi background guide her thinking about Hunter that she might, if she starts to voice her guess, blurt out "is he a clone? did they MAKE him? is THAT why he has no legal identity" and I'm just. Luz's reaction. Particularly if Hunter is in the room and still doesn't know. (DOES he know in this scenarion? I guess Philip might let it slip while torturing him and whatnot…)

i got an ask a while back about belos letting the grimwalker thing slip when torturing hunter, which Does compel me. i think hunter probably doesn't know exactly what he is..... but he knows he was Created by belos, that belos later ~*~realized~*~ hunter had actually been Made For Luz, and that it's such a shame that luz could never appreciate the gift she'd been given as much as hunter appreciates/lives for her, because maybe then belos wouldn't be so tragically forced to break her toys like this. it's really not hunter's fault at all that he feels the way he does for her. so sad.

(he says all of this while, like, methodically breaking hunter's fingers. or something.)

hunter loves and believes in luz enough that he'd never blame her or question her for a Second. a shitload of broken bones would explain why he's not able to track her down for a while, he can't move enough, he has to rest and heal. despite probable attempts to go find her anyway. (i like to think somehow darius is involved. and keeps punting him back to bed)

but there IS a question for hunter of whether he'd still love luz like this if he hadn't been literally created to. that doesn't matter to him, like At All, but he knows it would matter to luz. and he's scared of her rejecting him.

so he.... wouldn't tell her that he knows.

which brings me to. camila asking if he's a clone/lab experiment.

Also I'm partway through the evil food eater novel (to be clear, I started with the Pride arc and then went back to Lust and am now going chronologically) so here's my thoughts so far-

the plotline of banicas backstory Is Indeed fatphobic but it's nowhere near as bad as I'd feared it would be and @mikuhaku 's posts abt it really helped steel me so tyvm for that, clarith ur a heroe

banica is definitely the most sympathetic and relatable contractor to me so far? Like I love Riliane but I don't have much in common with her and I had zilch in common w/her when she was a princess, and obviously cherubim can fuck off, but banica... she horts my heart. like esp the way how as a teen she's so timid and traumatized but then lights up and infodumps happily when asked about her favorite subject, shes so cute

im genuinely rlly impressed by how well Carlos is written too? Like tbh I kinda expected him to be just, angsty karchess, but he feels very real. As a teenage prince he's obnoxious in the way that wealthy teen boys Are, but his life sucks enough to prevent him from being genuinely unpleasant. & Then as an adult he still is haunted by how he let his family hurt his first ever friend and is worried about her

to the point where he volunteers to let an evil sorceress magically change his face, so he can go work for her as a cook, while knowing full well that her cooks don't last more than a couple weeks?? & Then he sticks it out for a super long time despite being made to do grueling disgusting and dangerous work, and w/his only co-workers being creepy twins who hate his guts for reasons out of his control

& when arte tells him it's bc he resembles the man who abandoned her & pollo he apologizes to her, even tho they've been tormenting him... carlos bby i know from the songs that ur gonna end up going on an interdimensional road trip with these people, u have Got to learn to stand up for urself!!

Anyway the moments where banicas humanity resurfaces when she's talking to him are ;-; ... how she's genuinely upset and angry when he dies... The last thing he hears being her calling him out for it like Damnb ;;;-;;;

Oh also I love platonic I totally thought she was toast but she has Swag. Also I'm glad they explained that Bruno is a title bc the only Bruno I know about from the fandom is Gallerian's husband and that would make him like 700 years old by the time Gallerian is introduced which would be, weird.

Speaking of, im like 95% sure that Gallerian is the person that the narrator is addressing the story to?? It's a super cool framing device that combines world building, learning about Gallerian in the future, and learning about the main plot of the novel

also I did NOT realize that Lord Hedgehog the pervert who loves torture was going to ever be an actual relevant character, I totally thought that was just a throwaway bit from praefacio of blue lmao

oh also Irina's power being limited bc she's possessing a man is a trans mood funny af like. Babe why are u doing that... Just find a girl to possess even temporarily ur SO picky

anyway as you can probably tell I'm liking this a lot more than the lust arc, though I have a phobia of old food which has made reading about some of the shit banica gets up to really uhh difficult like anything moldy or rotten and I get physically nauseous so I'm having to take it slow

also I wanna know where TF she's still getting ingredients from considering that they're basically under siege but from the song I know they start running out eventually so I'm sure that'll be answered

i don’t talk enough about how badly the woodscouts fucked snake up.

his life was already pretty shit before he got sent to the ws. he was forced to toughen up and got into fights with other kids at school. he was even a partner in crime to max and they were best friends. Max was the smart talking schemer and snake was the muscle and the motivation. his fam, understandably, got concerned of the path he was going down so they sent him to thw woodscouts.

Since he was all against the establishment and the man and taking any orders (though he’s done stuff for max without question but i digress) his time at the woodscouts was hell. His ‘initation’ was one of the longest in woodscout history, spanning the course of several weeks where he would be subjected to perilous, near deadly traps and stunts and even like. softcore torture (but that’s a whole different story)

at the end. he sorta. lost will to do anything. he made a vow to show others the glory of the woodscouts, ya da ya da ya da. He ended up proving himself and he’s one of the most driven and competent members there is. It took so much to get him to that point. It’s honestly crazy thinking he went from to being someone like max... to whatever he is now.

relax, it’s nowhere near as scary as its title.

It’s a training exercise, used to punish misdoing recruits. They’re forced to spar a few of their fellow woodscouts to show their hardiness && unwavering strength. Of course, it’s not meant to be a fair fight in the slighest. The wrongdoer isn’t allowed to eat or sleep for the days leading up to the training exercise. You’re designed to loose, so you never disobey again.

I’ve never went through it myself, but I heard rumors of Petrol enduring it 10 times over. It’s simply not possible; no one is that strong.

           “ WHERE IS IT ? ”   voice raised, his knife is plunged into his hostage’s thigh, prompting the scientist to wail in agony.   nearby, zombies gather at the windows, an unfortunate audience.   “ you’re gonna tell me, mate.   whether you bloody like it or not.   so do us a favour and take that fact on the fuckin’ chin. ”   the knife is brutally twisted deeper,  then drawn to the side to open up the wound.   crimson spurts out, excess absorbed by their trousers.   

when that doesn’t work, he utilizes his pistol and has the muzzle linger over the other’s right shoulder.   when they begin to plea for him not to, the bullet in the chamber is released.   another strangled scream.   “ we’ve barely even star’ed and you think that’s fucking bad ? ”   ghost’s attention is solely focused on the bound man in front of him.   he’d found him fleeing from the scene, the usage of his ID card suggesting he’s worth something.   further investigation revealed the tosser to be working for umbrella.   

          “ think you can just run from this ?   oh you can.   you fucking can.   but I’m gonna haunt you f’ the shit you’ve caused this city.   the lives you put in danger.   the lives you bloody ruined.   and f’ what ? ”   a gloved hand grasps the other roughly by the jaw, wrenching his head in the direction of the zombies.   “ those were people before this.   you fucking caused that ! ”   the knife is twisted once more, though he hesitates at the sound of the room’s door creaking.   ghost’s head snaps to the side,  knife released and gun aimed at  —  a kid ?   

his vision blurs for a moment, brain processing the young girl’s presence and her deafening, rapid breathing, his weapon, the pained hostage beside him, the ravenous snarling of the dead.   everything goes silent.   except he can hear his heartbeat,  can hear the bullet in the chamber.   images flood his mind, empathy for the terror in her face  -  the same terror his nephew must’ve felt when a gun was . . .   “ fuckin’ ‘ell, ”   ghost hisses through his teeth.    

he tucks the weapon back into its pouch and then swiftly approaches her, cautiously moving his hand to guide her away from the gory scene before noticing the blood staining his glove.   “ c'mon,  kid, you don’t need t’ be seein’ that.   was just ‘avin’ a conversation with that gentleman in there, ‘s all.   ‘e’s done some bad things, ya see.   you lost or somethin’ ?   where’a ya parents ? ”    /  @traumashared​  /  sc.
