MARIA CALLAS as Floria Tosca in Puccini's Tosca, 1953
Maria Callas, Tosca. 1965.
Been getting really into Puccini operas lately and what I really like is the ones where the villain is a kind of guy who still exists nowadays because I just think. Oh. People are always people.
But like Pinkerton, guys like him still exist. He's the guy who wants to date Asian girls before settling down with a white wife. Literally, that's not even a joke. Or in the modern day he might be the 19 year old frat boy who thinks it's okay to flirt or worse with girls barely in high school, and groom and manipulate them into believing that he actually cares about them. Those kinds of guys still exist.
Or Scarpia with his hiding behind religion and wanting to break women.
People a hundred years ago had these kinds of problems, and the stories are still relatable and relevant. I really love them.
this time i wanted to do christine in some cool soprano roles? Because i love her so much
I know my Christines aren’t really consistent but we gotta believe in our hearts thats our girl christine ok yall
tfw you're trying really hard not to break character during all the rapturous applause after your big, tragic, heart-wrenching aria but the audience loves you too damn much:
