Chapter 1 of fanseason fanfic/ comic script
Do not read if you don't want comic spoiler, do read if you want to see what will happen in fic version!
"Yo! We're coming to you live from camp Wawanakwa! Somewhere in Muskoka, Ontario. I'm your host, Chris Mclean! Dropping season 4 of THE hottest ongoing reality show on every screen at home! Right now!"
"Here's the deal, we left things off with a boom from the volcano back on world tour. Some left just a bit unscathed and most were left soaked or scorched! Now? 24 campers have signed up from previous seasons till now to spend a long, long time right here at this crummy old summer camp! For at least 2 years! Some for the first time and some for the second time!"
"They'll compete in challenges against or with each other, then face the judgment of their fellow campers. Every month, one team will watch one of their team members walk down the dock of shame or never see them again during a fall in the challenge! Who knows? They'll paddle back home on the loser boat and leave total drama for good!"
"Now that these teens are probably young adults, it's about time to teach these overgrown weeds a lesson. To survive, they'll have to suffer a long time being near each other, never see their families for years, face challenges that could either build or break them, and.. Me and chef."
"Every moment will be caught in the now millions of cameras around the island. If it ever catches them in a bad naughty time, they better hope it stays here."
"Who will finally crumble from the ultimate pressure? Will ezekiel still reach me here, or can one of the campers finally get their money? Find out now in Total Drama Ultimate!"
----
"Now, let's start this show with a boom! Our first contestant, the woman who remains to be irrelevant despite her explosive outbursts on international TV.. Eva!"
The gangway groans under the weight of Eva's heavy, deliberate stomps. Though her previously tied black hair is now cropped short, she still sports a familiar blue athletic outfit, huffing as she marches toward Chris with clenched fists.
Chris steps back, one hand lifting to gesture her to stop, "Woah, dude. What now?" He crosses his arms. "Don't start a fight here, big girl. 'Just waxed the docks."
Facing him, Eva remains silent, heaving deeply before letting the tension in her shoulders dissipate. "It's been years, Chris. This show better be worth it this time. I got a gym to grow and I won't let anything stop me from getting that check, got it?" Her hoarse voice cracks, the end of her words grumbled under breath.
"Sure." Chris shrugs, his face morphing back to his casual smug grin.
Never lifting her glaring eyes from Chris, Eva drops her heavy bags into the floor and steps aside to wait.7⁹
"Now for the next contestant! A strong player with a stronger attitude that couldn't save her from eliminations, Leshawna!" Chris announces, clapping as a curvy woman drops down to the docks.
"SHUT it, Chris! You– Ooooooh….! Wow, wouldn't you take a look at that, sugar!" She squeals at the scrawny man behind her, that had followed after her while carrying their luggage. "This place looks greener than what I remember, mhm-mhmm.." She turns to the host. "What happened, Chris? What you up to this time?"
Pushing the glasses in his nose back up, the man behind her taps his foot against the polished wood. "Indeed, my Queen. I'm detecting a significantly lower decibel count from these planks. The structural integrity has increased by atleast 40%!"
"Harold." He says, rolling his eyes before letting out a loud, fake cough into his fist. "Still a loser."
Leshawna snaps her head at him, "What was that?" Harold wraps his arms around her. "You looking for a fight now, you wanna be tuff shit fame-hungry little bitc–"
"Aaaaand..the contestant who can't reach the finals because of his soft moral compass, lack of a father figure and eternal curse even with his juggernaut build! DJ!" He walks around them, now holding a sly smirk.
Harold pats her down to guide her next to Eva, dropping their things right next to hers right after.
DJ pauses mid-step, his gentle expression twisting into a deep frown before his brows furrowed. His voice deepens. "Low blow, Chris." Instead of staying light on his steps, his walk follows Eva's style. "My mama raised me just fine on her own." He jabs a finger right at his chest. "Want me to get ya a similar curse?"
Chris sneers, nudging his hand away. "Jeez, you get through just a couple of years without me and you all think you're somethin', huh? That's alright. I'll get you freaks back in your place." He moves closer to the dock, watching for the cameras.
DJ deflates, his eyes narrowing as he settles next to Leshawna. She lifts her head and offers a five, which he takes.
"You good, brother? Been a long time hasn't it?" She places her hands on her hips, tilting her head.
"Yeah, quite a while, I've been doing good though. I hope you also do." DJ's voice rises in pitch, nearly cracking. "Kinda miss you all, I've been wondering if y'all were alright." He murmurs, gaze falling to the floor. "Also kinda sad I got Chris mad and now he'll make things harder for us again."
Leshawna huffs. "Save your worries sweetheart, we'll be together stronger this time." She places a hand on his arm. "Just stick with us, sugar."
"Yes, you could totally be our ally so we'd reach the finals." Harold adds, leaning towards the two of them to join in. "You're strong and have a big heart, which we'll need for the ruthless journey ahead."
Leshawna giggles at Harold's affirmation. "See?"
DJ chuckles.
"Alright! Moving on." Chris says right at a drone ahead of him, he now stands just a few steps away from the gangway. "For the fan's most disliked besides Heather! The boyfriend-kissuh! Gweeeeen! With her classic 'bad boy' Duncaaaaan!"
"Ugh! Chris! Just- SHUT up!" Gwen walks down, all colors from her clothes and lips are switched for full black.
"Careful, goth girl. I heard goths are supposed to be coooool-uh." Chris teases, placing his hands on his hips. "So tone down that whining and get it on with ya lover boy!"
"Only thing still not cool is you, Chris!" Duncan snaps, stepping up behind Gwen and crossing his arms over his leather jacket. "We've been over for like years. You still not gonna grow out of that?"
Chris just stands there with his grin, "Mhmmmmm…" Then he lifts a hand and snaps a finger pointing at them. "No."
They leave, grouping with the rest. Duncan nudges Gwen and gives a rockstar gesture. "Nice to see ya again though."
Gwen chuckles, returning the gesture with a small smile on her lips. "Same, you can tell me how you've been later though."
Duncan shoves his hand on the pockets of his leather jacket and smooths out his now black grown mohawk. "Got 'cha."
"Moving..on. For my most favorites! Owen and Izzy!"
"Woooooooh! Woah! Wooow! Chris! It's still you!" Owen hops over the gangway, bending it with his weight alone, which had barely changed. He rushes forward and wraps his arms around Chris. "Duuuude! I really miss ya!"
Chris winces and tries to pat him to get him to stop now. "Same."
"Ooh! Group hugs? Ayieeeee! Yeah! Group hugs! Incomiiiiing!" Izzy squeals from the second floor of the yacht, suddenly lunging overboard to join Owen and Chris in the embrace. Her ginger hair is now tied up into a messy bun.
Chris cries in pain and surprises and Owen grunts, the topple down to the floor as the refurnished docks creak at the impact and pressure of their weight.
"Ow..dudeees…not cool.." Chris groans.
Gwen and Duncan's eyes finds each other, their lips falling flat to hold in their snickers and grin. Maybe some things never change.
From the edge of the docks, a familiar, cynical voice cuts through the cheering. "Ah, great, so every nut job is back to give me round 3 of daily disappointment and humiliation." He's less skinny and small compared to his younger self, but he still wears similar clothes.
"Noaaah…." Chris squeaks, air squeezed out of his lungs.
"Nice to see you taking the pain for us this time." Noah continues, dropping his bag down and crossing his arms.
Owen rises from Chris and chuckles sheepishly. "My bad, Chris."
Izzy laughs, heaving and climbing up to Owen. "Yeah, it's been a while! Oooh, do you have bigger surprises? Where's chef?"
Chris slowly rises, quiet as he rubs his chest. "Don't know, you'll find out soon though."
"Ah, Chris." A high pitched voice rings from afar. "You haven't changed quite a bit!" Her voice lowers as a grin blooms on her face. "Mom will like that."
The host's face strains with a wider grin, lines forming in his squinted eyes. His brows furrows for a moment but then he turns around slowly and steps back. "Thaaanks..?" He faces the cameras again. "Here we got Sierra and Cody, everybody!"
Sierra squeals, adjusting her hat and pulling a man with light brown hair with her, crushing her within his arms. "Can you believe this, Cody-kins? Yieeeee! We're back at the show where we first met! Sooooo romantic! Don't you think?" Her hair only reaches her back.
"Yeah..?" Cody murmurs, a small smile tethering on his lips.
She laughs, "Right, right..not a nice memory. Sorry about that phase, I'm just kidding." She lets him go and ruffles his hair.
----
"Woooooow Kyleee! This really is a talent show now!? Ayieeeeeeeeee!" A beautiful blonde girl runs down and jumps on the docks excitedly. "Yeeeeeeey! Tyleeeeeer! We are so going to rock this season!"
Muscular man comes down, carrying LOTS of luggage, that he looks like a human mule. Even with that, he still didn't break a sweat. "Awesome, man!"
Chris shakes his head, just gesturing for them to go and as they do he gestures towards them. "Lindsay and Tyler! Everyone! Next up! Beth!"
Beth comes down, now having her hair in a wavy length. "Lindsaaaaay!" She calls out, waving her hands as she immediately runs toward her teenage best friend.
"Oh my god! Beeeeth! Hiii! I could never forget you!" Lindsay beams, running towards Beth to bring her to a warm embrace.
A tall tan man with thick lips enters the dock with gentle steps. Everyone's eyes are drawn back to him once again, it's like he barely aged. "Finally, a place that matches the face." He flexes his arms and checks his reflection on the water.
"Justin! Still lookin' good." Chris claps, before crossing his arms. "Next up! Trent!"
A man with a long face with an unmistakable cleft on his chin appears, he's way taller now and his chest seems more pronounced even through his white turtle neck and green cardigan. His dark hair is thicker. He carries his guitar case behind him along with the rest of his things. Just before he could step onto the docks, his eyes draws onto the goth girl ahead of him. He pauses and frowns, flashes of the unpleasant road of their relationship goes through him.
Before he could open his mouth to speak, two girls nudges him down and gasp. "Oh wow! Trent?!" They both squeal unanimously.
"You've grown so handsome!" The tan and skinny one squeals.
"Totally! He's gotten more fit too!" The pale girl next to her added.
They wrap an arm on each of his and drags him forward with the group.
He chuckles nervously. "Ah- thanks- hold on-"
"You've got to catch us up on your song!"
"Sing one for us!"
Gwen and Trent's eyes catch one another, immediately pulling away.
A curvy olive skin freckled girl storms down, every step precise and deliberately heavy to be heard. Her eyes roam around the group and lingers over the Duncan and Gwen. Then glares full daggers at Chris.
"Courtney. Hope you still got that fire in ya!" Chris retorts, his smile growing manic.
"Zip it, Chris!" Courtney places herself far from the goth and the punk, right at the other side of the group.
"Oh wow!" A girl with olive green eyes gasps at the sight of the clean beach, the wind gently caressing her blonde hair, she pouts. "Should've brought my board this time."
"Bridgette and then Geoff!"
Geoff lifts his sunglasses from his face. "Heck yeah!" He throws his hands in the air, "You know what this call for? A party, babyyy!" He approaches Chris, "I remember ya as a pretty cruel guy so thanks for giving us a break this time around, man." He offers close 3 step handshake, which Chris swiftly takes. "Saw it from the boat, really cool stuff up there!"
"No problem, man. It's what I do."
Geoff walks to the front of the group with bridgette. "Things are gonna be different this time! Party hosted by the Guy's alliance!"
DJ, Duncan, and Owen look at each other and then raise their fist. "Party! Party!"
Geoff looks around, "You guys gonna join!?" He encourages.
One by one, from Trent to Cody, they chant along.
The heavy creak of the gangway silences them and the skidding of wheels draw them to the edge of the dock.
A robot carrying a light olive skin and long black hair woman wheels by.
"Put me down! Chris! What is this!? Get it to put me down! Now!" She barks, squirming around its grip.
The human-shaped robot's face show a scale between sad and happy, its slowly dropping to the blue side. Eventually it drops her without Chris even needing to say a word.
"Heather. That's just an assistant, you've met em before, y'know."
"Augh!" She shivers and wretches in disgust. "Never do that again!" She grabs her things from it and storms off.
A loud stomach growl echoes and catches everyone's attention.
Owen coughs. "My bad, the talk about the party guy me hungry.."
"Chris!? When are we gonna get lunch!?" Izzy chirps, climbing over Owen to see Chris.
"Hold on now, we're not done yet. Since adding a new contestants spiced up last season. I figured I keep things going with a new player!"
"Wait-" Heather pushes against the crowd to get to Chris. "A..new? Player? Not- I don't know..Alejandro?"
Chris raises an eyebrow and just gives a side glance at the robot before spinning away from her. "Campers! Get ready for a girl who's dabbled and obsessed over every hobby and art form known to man, mostly because she hasn't found the one that pays the bills yet! Give it up for the starving artist and poster child for 'unemployment': Dianaaaaa!"
A pale girl with a Heart hair clip tucked into the left side of her side swept hair comes into view. She adjusts the large round glasses in her eyes before adjusting her dark brown cardigan and the collar of the short-sleeved white button-up shirt underneath.
"Hi!"
Chris chuckles. "You're so adorably lame!"
Diana pouts, "And you're so.." She tries to come up with something to call him before just turning around and sulking, her hands fidgets on the large heart-shaped cufflinks on her sleeves. "Unfunny."
She brings her bag down to the group. She pats down her dark brown skirt, trying to smooth it down with her thoughts.
Heather checks her out before snorting. "Are those..polka dots? Soooo out of fashion. Did you put this all up in rush? Are you really here to compete?" She points down to her mismatched, thigh-high polka dot socks, one leg is white with brown spots and the other is dark brown with white dots.
Diana rolls her eyes. "You don't bring something here that looks good and is good if you're gonna compete and expect for them to be destroyed for the money, Heather. Of course, I'm gonna wear things 'out of fashion'. At least I can work it off. You should try it next time."
"Ugh, whatever. Grow up, will you?" Heather returns the gesture and walks off.
Diana finally let's out a deep breath. "So much for changing over the years." She takes out a book seemingly from thin air and begins to write.
Gwen catches the contents in the edge of her eyes. "Wow, did you draw that?" She points to the landscapes of the island from far to near. Then them, the contestants doing thing while they were on the boat. It included Gwen admiring the vast sea against the railings, Trent playing his guitar for Katie and Sadie, and Harold kissing Leshawna's hand. "And us?"
Diana clears her throat and shuts the book. "Uhm, yeah! You're an artist like me, right? You like drawing too? Well..I'm also big on other types of art..like writing. Like what Chris said. I guess..I could share more..later?"
"Now, first things first. We need a group photo for the promos! It's been a while since the last season aired on TV and this will kick things back up right where it left the audience. Everyone get right back on the edge of the dock!"
Everyone finds their place, getting ready to pose while Chris jumps right back on the boat.
Diana follows around the middle, but then Heather shoves past her. She stands right at the middle. She smooths her hair with one hand while placing the other on her hip.
The squeaking of wheels scratches her ears and a tube like arm bumps her in Heather's manner. It wheels away just as unbothered to linger behind Heather.
Diana stares while frozen in place, before she could regain her thoughts a voice rings from behind.
"Ugh! Move it!" Courtney marches around her. "I don't have all day!"
Gwen watches the brunette storm past her. Looking back on Diana, her brows furrows up towards each other.
Diana catches Gwen wave her over to be next to her. Behind Gwen, Duncan just watches the others get on with an amused smile. They're just by Heather's far right side.
Just before she could reach them, Geoff cuts right into her path. "Sorry, dude!" He calls out over his shoulder, his arm over Bridgette, leading her with him. Eva, DJ, Leshawna, and Harold follow after the two, now standing right near Courtney at other side of the dock, right near the edge.
(Side note from author, I am not a good writer. It's very likely you'll be confused on where who or what is. I think visually and struggle to put it on words. Bear with me here please, thank you. Its likely this whole chapter will be re written when a writer volunteers to polish it to match it with the comics, thank you!)
Izzy is still on Owen's shoulder and the big guy stands right next to Duncan.
Diana slides in front of Owen and a smile draws itself on her face. Gwen returns the look.
Noah taps Owen's arm and gives him a wave. "Nice to see you again, Fatso. Just like old times with that race, isn't it?"
Owen laughs, bringing an arm around him to pull him closer. "You know it, Noah!"
Crushed under Owen's grasp, Noah grunts and tries to breathe. "Ow-" He opens his mouth to give a dry retort but pauses when his eyes fall down to Diana. "You."
Diana frowns, stepping away from him. "Me?" She points to herself.
"Yeah, you. You should've stayed away from this show, big eyes. It's nothing but a competition on who's the biggest opportunistic snake among all of us yet."
"I have no other choice."
"There will always be an another choice."
Owen chuckles, patting Noah's head. "Don't mind him, you'll love it here!"
Diana's smile tugs up slightly.
Near Justin, Tyler lifts Lindsay up to place on his shoulder. He prepares to flex his arms for the group photo. Lindsay giggles, blush dusting her cheeks.
While Beth continues to gawk over Justin as he walked, she stands just near Tyler and Lindsay. Justin moves next to Heather's right side, nearly hiding the robot behind them further.
Sierra joins Courtney on the left side of the dock. Cody sneaks to be next to Gwen in the right. When he catches Sierra's dead stare, he offers a small wave. He watches as her scary gaze brightens and both of her hands wave back right him with a hundred times more energy.
Trent stumbles next to Heather's left side with Katie and Sadie dragging him there. Posing all over him.
"Okay! One..! Two…." Chris leans forward, his finger hovering over the capture button.
"Wait!" Chris leans back up, lowering the camera. "Mhmm..Can you guys step back a little?"
They step back.
"Just a little moree..like four times."
Everyone walks backwards..
"Wait-"
"Woah!" Owen shouts, flailing his arms when his foot meets only air from behind. His arm catches Duncan.
"Dude- Let go, man!" Duncan barks, but his protests are drowned by Noah's acream and Izzy's cheer.
"Duncan!" Gwen catches the punk's arm, with the combined weight dragging the man hack, she is also pulled forward.
Cody holds onto Gwen's waist. "Hold on, buddy!"
Diana tosses her book down the floor to help Gwen with Cody. It was futile. They all drop into the water with a huge splash.
The robot in the middle flails similarly to Owen, in it's last attempt of balancing itself–it extends it's arms to wrap around Justin, Tyler, Beth, Lindsay in his right then Heather, Trent, Katie and Sadie at its left. The robot's drop echoes hard with a clank while the people in its grasp join it.
Bridgette clings the edge of the dock with Courtney and Geoff holding onto her from under.
"A little help here guys!?" Geoff shouts, his grip slowly slipping.
"Heeeeelp!" Courtney cries, "Chris, you are not getting me again!" She barks, climbing over Bridgette.
DJ rushes over with Leshawna and Harold, slowly pulling Bridgette up. "Hold on!"
Chris watches, his eyes narrowing. "Wanna bet?" He crosses his arms and then drops down from the boat. With a shove, he sends Harold tilting over Leshawna, knocking DJ forward like they're dominos.
"AAAAAAHH!" Their drop creates a splash that slaps against the underside of the docks.
Chris laughs, sitting at the edge of the docks to take a picture of them in the water.
Under the shallow waters, the chill burns throughout Diana's body. She flails, her nose burning from the impact and water filling her head. She sinks slowly and so she opens her eyes in the depths of freshwater. Underneath her, a robot holds some of the contestants captive. Her eyes widen, they'd drown just like her.
She tries to dive closer, but her light frame resists and pulls her up. Stuck between the surface and the ground below, she changes her mind. Someone else will be better off saving them.
She spins and begins to paddle her way to the distant silhouette of legs. Her body slowly lifts up more and more as she held her breath.
Her feet finally brushes against sand. She couldn't take it anymore. Launching herself off the sandy shore, she surges through the surface, gasping for air. Her throat continues to burn bad, she can't breathe! Heavy coughs shove her stomach back, forcing water out of her nose and mouth.
"Diana!" A hoarse voice calls out, Gwen crosses the water and guides her closer to the shore.
"Gwen..there's more.."
"What? More?"
"People, the robot guy..." Diana pants, "Is holding onto them." She twists around, resisting against Gwen to look back. "
"Really?" Gwen follows her gaze, before turning her head towards the people on the shore, she sweeps through them when she counts and a gasp escapes her.
"We're missing lots of them! Chris!! Your stupid robot assistant is drowning the others!" Her voice cracks, now dragging the girl next to her faster up the high ground.
"Guys! We gotta help them out!" Leshawna beckons, pulling Bridgette with her. "Come on, surfer girl! Beth, Lindsay ain't with us!"
Geoff tosses his hat down and joins Bridgette as his hands work on his pink blouse. "Joining in! Come on, DJ! Tyler and Trent is in there, man!"
The water begins to churn violently. With a powerful, mechanical heave, the robot's arms lock into place. Bridgette and Leshawana tug and pull against it to pry the others from its grip. Instead of dragging the campers down. It uses its hydraulics to launch Tyler, Justin, and Trent towards the surface like human torpedoes. They land with a synchronised thud on the sand, groaning and gasping in pain.
Bridgette's eyes catch the wheel being stuck, so she pulls Geoff and Dj down to help her with pulling it up.
The robot begins to wheel and float from one rock and coral to another to reach the shore. While behind it, the group does their best to keep it from sinking in the sand.
Finally, the robot rises, letting Trent, Katie and Sadie go to climb on its back with Bridgette, while it kept holding Heather in one arm and Lindsay with the other.
It finally marches out of the surf. It dumps Heather and Lindsay into the sand like sacks of potatoes.
Trent coughs with the girls next to him. "Man, remind me not to stick around this thing." He grunts, slowly climbing down only for the robot's electrical wires to flare and shock him.
Katie and Sadie yelp, jumping away with Trent.
The meter on it's face begin to flip back and forth in left and right, pointing on the happy face and then sad one as it's head sparks and twitches uncontrollably. It's head continues to face Heather even as it shakes uncontrollably.
Heather coughs but her eyes lock onto the robot with furrowed brows. She slowly rises to her feet, hand lifting to point at the malfunctioning machine. "Chris!? Your little toy is broken! Can we get rid of it now?"
Through her glasses, Diana feels something in her gut. She turns her head around, left and right, twisting around to check who else is also behind them when she begins to count.
23, twenty three people and one robot..
She returns her attention back to Heather and the machine, a strange tension lays over them.
Alejandro is the only one missing.
The robot's head slowly turn towards her. The two face symbols on it's face were it's eyes, now locked onto her as the curved meter gleams like a smile.
Diana steps back, her chest still heaving heavily. This feels bad. Is it bad? It's just a machine, right?
"No can do, Heather! He's sticking around!" Laughter echoes from the docks, "Alright, meet me in the camp fire in ten." He announces, his feet already dragging him far away from them.
Noah trudges next to her, wringing out the layers of his top. "Welcome to the next two years of our life, newbie. If we're lucky, that thing could short-circuit and take us all out before we could eat Chef's disgusting food."
Diana couldn't lift her gaze, her body resisting like the cold water has finally frozen her. The robot's head suddenly steadies. The meter stops flickering and lands dead-center on sad face on it's right side. Why is it sad?
"Hey, big eyes." A hand taps on her shoulder.
Noah raises a brow at the line in her eyes. "Never thought those could get any wider, what's up? Do robots scare you?"
Blinking owlishly, she couldn't open her mouth to speak. Her eyes drift back to the robot, just surrounded by curious gazes and people trying to dry off.
"No, just.." She finally creaks, coughing right after. "Just that one."
Then in the corner of her eye, the distant figures of Bridgette and Leshawna become smaller as they make their way to the docks. Right, they have to go to the campfire place- with their things.
"Let's go get our stuff, yeah?" Diana follows after the two from afar.
---
"Now this is a familiar sight! We've had lots of fun and suspense here, didn't we, campers?"
The tree stumps has stayed exactly where it was. The ashes from the campfire flows with the breeze.
Trent's eyes falls on the spot he had shared with Gwen during the challenge that brought them closer together. He moves his gaze to Gwen, who shares the sentimental memory.
---
Confessional: [Trenton]
In the dingy restroom, Trent stares at his hands with eyes in a troubled daze, messy thoughts drifting all around his head. He clenched his fist, doing anything to feel like he can pull himself together. "Okay, I know what you're thinking: Trent, you're still not over her? It's been nearly a decade! Well, I am! It's just–you look back on your teenage years ans it's hard to say that the girl who stole your heart that summer isn't special. It makes you wonder if you would still screw it up even if you're older! Okay? There's just..a lot."
He deflates, his hands blooming open. He curls up into his palms, murmuring over them. "I'm here to win this time. Not here for her. Not here for a cool summer.."
"Not here for love."
End of Confessional.
---
"Campers, welcome back to Camp Wawanakwa! Your home for the next two years! The campers sitting around you could be your cabin mates, competition, friends and even something more."
"The camper who manages to stay on total drama ultimate the longest, without getting voted off will win ten million dollars!"
Back in the campfire area, Chris holds a paper that lists the teams. "This season, I decided that the cast is very much big enough for three teams. So! We've split you all up randomly! Here are the three teams!"
"First up, the ultimate screaming gophers! If I call your name out, you stand over there."
"Trent."
Trent's eyes widens, Chris merely grins and gestures to the right side area of the seats. He makes his way there and turns to face the rest of the uncalled group. "Looks like I'm a Gophers again."
"Heather."
Heather catwalks to Trent's side, sharp eyes glued to the robot instead of him. The dark tint of her sunglasses hides that glare to the group, but not Trent, who has risen a brow at her cold stare. Heather moves her gaze to the corner of her eye, catching the curiosity from the man. She takes off her glasses and offers a shake with her free hand. "Sorry for that..strategic kiss back then, Trent! You dont hold a grudge do you? I won't try anything like that again." She gives a quick wink. "Unless you want me to."
"No problem, past is in the past, you did play the game well. Even if dirty." Trent crosses his arms, turning his head away with a blank expression.
"Geoff!"
Geoff hops towards Trent with his hand already up for a five. "My man! Glad to be with ya, dude!"
A slow chuckle leaves Trent and he takes the five with a small grin. "Same, man. Maybe that guy alliance we had back then could really come back."
"More like we'll need it, we got Ms. Legendary Total Drama Queen of Two-facing and Backstabbing over here in our team!" Geoff laughs, his thumb pointing at Heather. The childish name calling pulls her brows into a sharp furrow.
"Ugh! And now we have Mr. Irrelevant reality TV host wannabe manchild!" Heather barks back, crossing her arms and puffing up her chest.
"Ooh, still sharp with that mean girl 'tude ain't ya?" Geoff snickers.
"Justin."
Justin grins, approaching the small group slowly. "Interesting." His hand runs over his hair as he scans their appearance. "It's quite fitting for me to be in a group with charm and looks. Mostly with, I mean."
They don't react much, Trent blinks while Heather simply rolls her eyes. Geoff offers a fist bump. "Good to have you here, man."
"Bridgette!"
"Oh. Wow." Bridgette stands next to Geoff. "Still together no matter what, huh?"
"I still miss your lips you know." Geoff whispers, his eyes narrowing as he leans closer to her.
Bridgette giggles, "Stop that, you'd have us end up like that time in season two!" She pushes him back as she turns to the group.
Trent nudges Geoff's arms. "Never split up?"
Geoff's eyes widens and he shakes his head. "We did, hard not to find each other time and time again though. Sweet lips and all."
"Dude, sick." Trent chuckles, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Wish I could be that lucky."
"Dude, aren't you a big indie popstar still? You look great and all, you're telling me you got no one back home rooting for ya?"
A strained frown falls over Trent's face as his eyes squint and fall to the ground. He shrugs and keeps his hands in his pockets. "Being a star doesn't exactly offer a long term that well.. I.. I'll tell you about it later, I guess."
"Gwen!"
Gwen turns her head to Diana. She offers a small smile to her which Diana returns.
Diana waves her goodbye as she watches Gwen enter the team of Screaming Gophers. It'll be unlikely to join her there after all. Turning back around, she stops just before she could walk into Trent's face.
Trent smiles, offering his hand out. "..hey, man.."
Gwen takes his hand. "Hey."
"Looks like we're both back in the Screaming Gophers team."
"Yeah."
She settles next to him, her hands holding onto both of her arms as she shrinks back. Her eyes remain glued to the ground, unable to look at him in the eye.
"Courtney."
Courtney stands in front of her group before scoffing. "Really, Chris? Putting me back in with Heather and Gwen!? How original! This is basically team Amazon again!"
Chris chuckles, "Yeah but atleast you've got the girl who kissed a pole, the guy cheated on in international TV, the number nine guy and just a really hot dude. More diverse." His brows furrows. "Now try to stop complaining before I give your team a disadvantage in your first challenge."
Chris clears his throat. "Now, for the last member of the Screaming Gophers, DJ!"
Heather huffs. "Finally, landing on a sane guy built like a truck? Not bad. I like my chances."
"Don't even think about being the leader here, Heather. I'm in charge!" Courtney barks, crossing her arms.
"Oh look who hasn't changed in the worse way ever! Did your office job crank that B.I.T.C.H. in you to a million? You know, most of us have moved on, you should try it!"
Courtney gasps and crosses her arms, stomping her sandals down the ground before settling next to the men, far away from Heather.
DJ, sensing the tension, moves next to Heather to block Courtney from seeing her. He leans over, "Girl, I think you've got to tone down that sharp tongue of yours. I'm all for it but maybe not do it to our own ream?"
Heather tilts her head, suprised he isn't that opposed to her as she thought. "Oh, sure. Since you asked so nicely. Friends?"
DJ chuckles. "Sure, even if you're the actual bitch here."
Heather rolls her eyes but a smile grows in her lips. It was hard for anyone to dislike DJ. "Whatever."
Geoff offers a fist bump, "Good work on chilling her down, and hey wouldn't you look at that, Guy Alliance is almost complete! Welcome back, DJ."
Dj bumps his fist. "Thanks man."
Chris laughs, amused at the banter already. He returns to his list and places a hand on his hip.,
"Next, the ultimate killer bass!"
"Duncan!"
"Alright then." Duncan moves to the middle of the area and sits on one of the tree stumps. "Guess I know who's gonna lead this team. Back again as the star in the Killer Bass!"
He finds his gaze drifting to Courtney and Gwen, but he simply leans back. No use dwelling in the past now, especially since he was the huge ass back then. Geoff gives a huge wave, joined by DJ. Atleast he still has pals, even when they're in an another team.
"Dramabot!"
The robot wheels next to Duncan, it tilts its head and sparks fly from the wires dangling from the gaps of its metal casing.
"Aw, seriously? Chris, why does this thing even have to be a contestant? This big hunk of metal will and literally be a deadweight!" He straightens up, knocks his fist into its metal torso.
The robot spins to side and sends its hand straight into the back of his head.
"Ow!"
"You'd rather be one member less than the other two teams?" Chris raises a brow.
Duncan rolls his eyes. "Yeah, man."
Chris laughs. "Then good news! From now on, drama bot won't be part of the voting choice for every time your team loses. You're stuck with it, so deal with it. Man."
He returns to his list. "Lindsay."
Lindsay sits near the robot, tapping her chin curiously. She then giggles, tapping at its arm. "Sweet! I get to be with a cute robot!" She tilts her head when the robot turns to her, head still twitching and crackling with electricity. "Aaaaw...Duncan! Its sad and hurt from drowning earlier still! It's probably not water resistant!"
Duncan scoffs, crossing his arms. "Good! Atleast it won't last long!" His eyes scan her over, a whistle escaping his lips. "You sure grew up well, sweetheart."
"Thanks! You too!"
Chris clears his throat some more. "Sadie."
Sadie looks back on her best friend Katie, waving her two hands as she sits next to Lindsay. She seems more accepting of the possibility that they won't be together all the time.
"Izzy."
"Yipeeeeee!" Izzy squeals, running head first to the robot, she jumps and tackles it into the ground. "Come on, big Al! Shock me!"
The robot whizzes and let's out a soft whine, it hits the ground with a loud clank.
"Harold."
"You should be careful with that, it looks like it's powered by a thousand kilowatts." Harold pulls Izzy off, inspecting the robot with a hand on his chin. "We should not worry our member is a robot, if we ever need electricity in a challenge, we can use it's battery!"
Duncan sighs, "Yeah, we'll leave that robot up to you, bud." He kicks the fallen robot, it beeps and whirs.
Harold pushes his glasses up. "You're bold to assume you'll be leading this team, don't be overconfident just because you got past the merge consecutively throughout the seasons."
Duncan pushes himself up, grabbing his collar and dragging Harold up to his face. "Yeah? What? You think you got what it takes?"
Harold spits at his face. "Don't think I forgot about all those pranks, I may not be stronger still, but you are not going to dictate everyone here!"
Duncan's lips form a gritted frown before it turns into a grin. "At least you're throwing it in my face instead of going behind my back like the coward you were. Plus, you've actually gained a sense of decent hygiene now, pal." He shoves him back. "You're lucky I think you get us a lot of chances of winning."
"Katie."
Katie gasps, squealing as she immediately jumps towards Sadie. "Oh my gosh! We aren't separated! We are so gonna rock this season together!"
"For the last member, Cody!"
"Alright!" He makes his way towards the ladies, "Worry not ladies, codemiester is back in town! I'll keep you safe from that robot, ladies!" He sits on the fallen robot, only to yelp away when it's metal shocks him off. Lindsay, Izzy, Katie and Sadie giggle at his poor display of charm.
"Lastly, my favorite team name! Team Chris is really, really, really ultra-hot! All of you left in there, you're all Team Chris. I'll read you all off. Diana, Beth, Owen, Noah, Tyler, Eva, Leshawna and Sierra!"
"Excuse me, Diana, right?" A very short girl, Beth, taps on Diana's arm.
Diana tilts her head, offering a hand out for a shake. "Yes, you're correct, and you're Beth?"
Beth shakes her hand, "Good to see an another player wearing glasses! I'll tell you all about how to preserve them in this show! The challenges get very rough physically.."
"Yeah, and listening to a finalist is a good idea, so keep whatever Beth says in mind. Not sarcastic by the way." Behind Beth, Noah crosses his arms and joins in their space. "I think of losing lots of members early on is slim, but what do you think, Beth?"
Beth taps her chin. "I agree with you, but it depends, we've all grown up and we probably have new skills and improved flaws!
Diana places her hand on her hip while the other pushes her glasses up. "I think the killer bass will struggle most with that robot in their team. Can't exactly talk...but it can do anything?"
"Very insightful, even if obvious. We shouldn't overestimate ourselves. We have Owen, Eva and Tyler." Noah shakes his head.
"What's wrong with them? Owen can survive a eating challenge, which Chris is notorious for. Eva..well no one exactly knows anything besides her strength, if she learnt how to put her anger into good use, I'd say we have a powerhouse, and Tyler...yeah, maybe he could get compromised if Lindsay is in the picture." Diana turns to face the rest of the team.
Owen is ruffling Tyler's head, "It's just like back in world tour! Nice to see ya buddy!" Then his stomach growls. "Woops, I'm remembering those plane food, sorry."
Tyler laughs, playfully punching his arm. "Ew dude, I remember those barf bags in the elimination ceremony.
Eva is alone, but her sharp eyes catches Diana's own gaze and her head lowers to give a small greeting nod.
Noah shrugs, lifting his hands up along the gesture. "Very optimistic. Atleast there's someone new for critical morale."
Beth giggles, "We could be the brains of this team!" She offers the idea before she squeals, waving at Leshawna. "Hiiii!"
Leshawna turns around, seeming to have been observing the other teams mingle.
"Hey girl, what's up?"
As Beth leaves Diana and Noah to talk to Leshawna, a beeping sound catches the two's attention.
Sierra frantically types in her phone, already documenting the teams.
Right. She should do the same too.
Pulling out her book, she begins to jot down the members of every team.
"..you're not like that super-fan girl, are you?" Noah looks over her shoulder, curious to see what she is writing.
"Nope. But she's a clever player, taking down notes and observing others is a great skill that she has sharpened with passion." She closes the book shut.
---
"Now, you guys are going to stay here! Not exactly summer camp-y, but I kinda forgot to renovate the cabins. So you'll stay here!"
The chorus of "Woaaah!" "Wow!"-s echoes from the group, their eyes wide in awe as they take in the large mansion right next to the old dilapidated cabins.
But despite the shining railings, frame of the windows, clean walls and groomed greenery, the sight places a heavy pit in Diana's stomach. Her eyes drift to the rotting steps of the cabin from afar and it..somehow feels more..safe?
"Chris..what if I chose to stay in the not renovated cabin?" The question leaves her before she could consider the absurdity of it.
"What? Why?" That is exactly what everyone is thinking besides Chris.
"I just.. uh.. want to experience what it was like for the old cast to be in a cabin!"
"You all will eventually move back to them. So, you can wait!"
"If I don't wait, can I have it all to myself?" Okay, now that's just fear of living with people talk. She should stop making herself sound suspicious, come on!
Silence hangs in the air for just a moment, Chris has eyes wide and genuinely dumbfounded by her questions. Then it squints as he grows a sly grin in his face.
"Oh? Oooh..? Is that what this is now, I seem to see...You're planning something now, don't you?"
Everyone becomes eerily quiet, their eyes glued to her.
Sensing their distrust growing by every second, she looks back and forth around them before letting out a defeated sigh. "No, not really. I just thought that, well..I really like to be alone, I'm a bad roommate, I'm messy with my things and I don't like anyone near me when I sleep. I also think that..I don't deserve to be in a nice mansion, everyone here has experienced so many things in this show that they totally deserve to be in something nice for once."
"Wow, real noble. I hate it. Fine, you can have your crummy old cabin. Don't ever hold that against me." He takes out his ring of keys and throws one at her.
Everyone slowly disappears in the mansion, except for Noah.
"So, what are you really planning for? Choosing to be sleep in something that can kill you over the one that can save you energy and sanity?"
"..it doesn't feel right."
"Yeah, right. You ought to stop listening to that gut feeling, we're on the same team. I can't have you acting dumb and thinking youre brave, or you're out."
"...I'll see why else I feel like this, but I feel like I need to earn your trust just as you need to earn mine."
"Are you suggesting I should do something for you to earn that trust?"
"Would you accept?"
"Depends, what is it?"
"Still not sure, I could ask you to give me some stuff in there. Soap, shampoo, pillows and blankets? And if you find any drills or nails, I'd like that too."
"..wow."
"Soo..no?"
"No, yeah, I accept, but you've just perplexed me. You may be on the road to beating Izzy in being a nutcase."
"Alright! Good to hear! Thanks, Noah!" She hoists her bags up and rushes to the cabin.
The first step creaks and nearly bends from her weight. That can be useful if someone heavier tries to make their way in.
In front of the cabin, she drops the bags by the stairs and taps on the wall by the door. With the key given to her, she unlocks the door and pushes it wide open.
It..it still looks like how it was in the show. Bunk beds with darkened stains, peppering it's sheets and mattress. The spores in the air floating with dust under a light line that made its way in from a hole in the roof.
She tests the planks under feet with a gentle stomp, it creaks and when she steps to the right and does it again, it– CRACK!
Oh well, it went through this time. Looks like she can catch up on some exercises when she chops down some trees and..wait, can she even do that?
"Soooo...regretting it?" Chris peaks his head from the doorway.
"Uh..it's..homey! Cozy."
"Yeah, with mold." He steps in, waving the dusty air away from him.
"Is it allowed for me to renovate this place myself? And have access on the island's resources?"
Chris tilts his head. "Depends, not sure if I can let you or if you'll do it for free."
"Just say it's a challenge for me to earn this to myself and I'll definitely do it for free, provided that you give me access to some tools too?"
"Then it's a deal, I'll probably have to include those tools in a reward challenge. Suffer for it and all."
"Alright then!"
"Wow..just wow."
He loses his smile. "Do you know what's up with that mansion?"
"What?"
He clasps his hands together behind his back. "Like, did you find a leak or something..or the reason why you shouldn't trust me and all."
"No? Should I be worried that something is up?"
He lifts his hands back to give a placating gesture. "No, not all, my man." He crosses his arms. "You're kinda bumming me out here by suffering when you're not supposed to. Like..why can't you be childish and join the rest of those dorks."
"...we're adults? I grew up to try and be responsible?"
"And self-deprecative? Augh..man..you're so lame!" He slaps a hand over his face. "I'm starting to hate choosing you!"
"..you totally just want to make me suffer in your dramatic way, don't you?"
....
"Wait..so you really are up to something! There's something in that mansion that will break their spirits, I just need to know what!"
He rolls his eyes. "Whatever man, you may have figured it out, but no way are those kids listening to you! You're right, they're sick of being treated like shit and they'll cling to any amount of luxury I dangle right up their faces! And you're just some silly nerd who'd rather starve because you think you deserve it! They'd think you're just trying to pull them down in your little crappy cabin! Because newbies like you are a threat to their advantage!"
Silence thickens in the air. Their eyes locked onto each other for a long while.
"Okay, wow. You should join this show. That was good villain monologue."
"...can you just, go there and–"
"No."
"Aw, Fineeeeee..."
The door slams shut.
Now, let's see what she can work with.
Should she continue to breathe in the mold? Obviously not. She needs to throw most of this out. Well, maybe keep them in an another place to use.
The drawers and frames can be used still, every plank on the floor is creaky but some holds up well.
In the center of the room, she drags the carpet towards the door and lays it over the steps.
Pulling the mattresses out of the bunk beds was the biggest hurdle, she'd hit her elbow on the bed's frame multiple times, her pale skin is already blooming with bruises.
She pushes it all out the door, dragging them against the fresh grass to the side of the cabin. She heaves, her face is burning already. This'll be good exercise.
"Nice work."
The cynical voice returns.
"Saw Chris moving out of your cabin, had a fun talk?"
Diana perks up, twisting around to face him. "..Not really." Beside the dilapidated cabin, all she could do is shrug. "He's just confused on why I won't join you."
"Well, he should be." His eyes drift down to her arms. "You're already hurting yourself. His challenge could happen today, you're going to be a deadweight before we even step foot in that challenge."
"...well, I can..tell you something so you know I'm not useless?"
"Which is?"
"It's quite big, sensed it from Chris! You should uh..bring me those things I asked for first! Please?"
"Ugh, fine. Any Intel is better than nothing. Everyone up there is too busy being sentimental to be worth talking to instead of being smart."
He turns and heads back to the mansion.
Now, what to do? She can't exactly tire herself too much. Maybe she should..
Her eyes drift to the ground, the grass looks lovely. The sun is just warm enough to be fresh against the chilly breeze.
What if she lives outside?
She snorts, giggling at the thought. Rain would be a pain, no way.
Now that she thinks of it. Using the island's resources could also work for challenges..no?
If everything is set to be done here, being familiar with every path could help her.
She brings out her red book, saved from when she threw it away earlier before diving in with Gwen. She needs a goal, map and lists.
Places to collect materials she can weave, tree area she can cut, lake or rivee to bathe in. What else? Her stomach grumbles. Right. Bushes to forage. Wait.
She used to hyperfixate about foraging but..it has been a while. Thankfully, she brought books! She's pretty sure she brought all the survival stuff she needs. The rest she also needs is a bag and a basket.
Let's get to exploring.
She returns to her cabin, rummaging through her bags to get her foraging book and the extra sling bag she brought with her and a compass.
...she forgot how to use the compass, too. Darn it! It's just..
If the behind is south and she goes forward to north.. she justs have to make sure the symbol she headed towards is now on the bottom when she has to return where she came from, right?
She can do this.
Just as she opens her door to explore, the intercoms from afar rings and scratches her ears.
"Attention campers! It's lunchtime, so head to the dining area for your meal!"
Is she a part of that?
Technically she's not in the mansion. But what if she can..
She slowly walks to the entrance of the mansion but the intercom booms again. "Except you, Diana! You're not a resident in the ultimate cabin! You gotta get your own food or starve."
"Alright!" She huffs, twisting around to walk back to the forest behind her house.
She can do this, she can survive off coffee for a week straight during her college years in nursing! She can do this!
Can she really?
