Actually the films that fall into the Avengers film universe were all produced by Marvel Studios. They were released through other studios though, with the Incredible Hulk being the one-off. However, the way the deal for the rights for Spidey's films (as well as the Fantastic Four and X-Men) went down in the 90s, only Sony can produce and release Spidey films. Were he to cameo, the contract basically would result in about 40% of the Avengers 2 profits going to Sony no matter how short it was

Ugh, THANK YOU! I didn't mind being wrong, I just wanted someone to explain it without simply saying "No, Spider-man can't be in Avengers 2" and when I ask why it's "....bnecause no"

Okay then, I guess sad as it is, there's no Spidey showing up for an Avengers team-up. (Well, it's technically possible, but 40% is WAY to steep a cut and I doubt Sony will lower it) I mean, I already knew the FF were out (Chris Evans would collapse from the double duty) so not caring there. This also dampens any Wolverine appearnaces as well I guess. Man, all around bummer. :(
