GUYS. Take a chill pill.
I love this fandom, I do. I am in awe of so many individuals here, of their passion and investment and intelligence. I've enjoyed many of the discussions I read, have laughed at such witticism and humour that I honestly have never seen in any fandom elsewhere (or maybe I've just been living under a rock, I don't know), marvelled at art that I firmly believe should either be printed out or be on display somewhere. I could go on and on, but to sum it up in one word, this fandom is MARVELLOUS. But I guess the downside of such passion and investment and intelligence is that we tend to sometimes -- collectively -- overlook and forget the real reason why Mofftiss and Ben and Martin and everyone else involved in this show do what they do: plainly and simply put, it's because they want to entertain us. They want to tell us a good story. They want us to suspend disbelief, if only for 90 minutes per episode every two to three years, and lose ourselves in the narrative as they wish to tell it. So guys -- take a chill pill. To a certain extent it's enjoyable to write and read about meta, to research every little thing pertaining to the show and get excited or stressed (depending) about whatever is found, to debate John's actions or Sherlock's feelings or whatnot. BUT ONLY TO A CERTAIN EXTENT. When something begins to hurt you, makes you unnecessarily anxious, or -- God forbid! -- makes you forget that this show exists to ENTERTAIN, to tell a story: learn how to step back. That's it. Just ... step back. You'd be surprised how much larger the picture would suddenly become when you do. As Johnny Depp is credited for saying, 'I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you're on it.' So yeah -- enjoy the ride, guys, because that's what we really should be doing in the first place!
