i'm even more emotional now about when midoriya cheered on todoroki to do his best. if he couldn't hear the full extent of the conversation, than he just knew todoroki needed the encouragement. **cries forever**
From the reaction shots we get we know that Izuku and Ochako can hear Kacchan’s “I want and indisputable first place” stuff which makes sense because that boy doesn’t know what quiet is. I mean, he’s read about it but he’s not very good at doing it. All of Shouto’s “god I don’t know if I can do this” is in his head (interestingly, all of Shouto’s dialogue in this fight is in his head. Unlike his fight with Izuku where he was keeping up with the back and forth of conversation during the fight in this one he’s basically silent on the outside. He doesn’t respond to Kacchan’s demanding and yelling with anything more than staring) which means that just from watching he knew that Shouto needed support so he gave it. The thing that makes me cry most is that if we continue to assume that the crowd was being rowdy, like they do, then that means that Shouto picked Izuku’s voice out of the crowd. That’s not nothing and I have feelings.
Kacchan also picked Izuku’s voice out of the crowd because he responds to Izuku’s “Todoroki-kun, don’t lose! Do your best!” with begrudging gratefulness. Of course, Kacchan still doesn’t get what he wants out of that fight and breaks down. Boy needs some help.
I have a lot of feelings about the Sports Festival arc in general tbh. So much interesting shit yall.
