in 2004 a thread started on buffistas.org to discuss tropes used in Buffy and other Whedonverse shows. At the time there were no formal names for most tropes so users assigned them names based on the scenes they were discussing. This thread inspired one of the site members to start the website TVTropes.org

Most of the listings on TVtropes were named after scenes and quotes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

when you stumble upon a fic for the Fandom's Pet Crackship that has a interesting premise so you're like "ah what the hell I don't hate the ship might as well see what all the fuss is about" and then the fic is so good that it rewires your brain and converts you into a true believer so you go into the ship tag ready to read all the Fandom's Pet Crackship your heart desires only to find that the vast majority of it is off-puttingly out of character because apparently you won the fanfic lotto on the first try and now, knowing how good the ship can be when the characters remain faithful to their original characterization, you struggle to enjoy the crackship wishfulfilment the way it was meant to be enjoyed

Rolling through act 1 and 2: Damm the developers were really committed to a consistent theme of art and pastiche. Love all these empty picture frames; what an intelligent use of assets to convey vibe and motif. They must've had this great idea of the Paintress and then were like "let's make everything about paint!" and I really respect their commitment here to putting it into all aspects of the lore. I love when a fantasy story re-flavors the world to be focused around a single idea. So fun and like, cheeky.
