Gosh it's one thing to imagine a moment with a lover who would irrevocably harm you with a specific touch, but the difficulty of a full relationship like that? The casual intimacy of living together tinted with the constant lurking damage you possess? The rituals and care you would both take to avoid harm and avoid getting harmed? The creeping and dangerous lowering of stakes as the relationship went on -- "maybe it wouldn't happen", "maybe I'm immune" "would it really be like that" which sows doubt and encourages you to lower your defenses?
One of my more out-there theories is that Kuras feels so much guilt because he caused the creation of the Soulless. Angels are responsible for the caretaking of souls. Though we don't know much about them, the name "Soulless" SEEMS pretty straightforwards. It also would explain to me how he is so interested in helping MC -in addition to the rest of the town, where the population is regularly terrorized by the Soulless. He has to make up for his mistake.
My assumption is that Ais can communicate/talk to the soulless because he has maybe sold his soul to Ocudeus, which has had soulless communication as an unintended side effect?
