I am incredibly touch starved, it's not something that came from quarantine, I started to really take note of it and take it seriously near the end of high school. It gets to the point where I get tactile hallucinations of someone else running a hand along my arm or hand, or just someone else's weight pressed up against me. Now, in light of quarantine I can't really see anyone in person and alleviate these feelings. What other ways are there to cope?
Hi there,
Thank you for sending in your ask to mental health advice. I am so happy that you came to us for advice. I hope to help you as much as I can. I totally understand that need for human contact during these hard times. I am super lucky that I have my significant other that I live with, but other people aren’t as lucky. I can give you some tips that could help with this need.
One idea that comes to mind is to start by getting a heating pad or a warm water bottle. Then you can cuddle with some blankets while being close to something warm. This can help to give you the feeling of the warmth of another body when you can’t access that right now.
I also would suggest doing what I said above and then doing a video chat or just calling a friend or loved one. Some people really need that social interaction but are unable to get it the usual way. Maybe talking with someone would also help with this need for touch.
Another thing to think about is you are not alone in what you are feeling. Everybody on this earth is basically going through a similar issue. We are here for you and you will get through this!
Did you know that we have a live chat service that is available to anyone who needs it? To speak with someone, you can send in a request for one of the live chat admins to talk with. You can also check and see if an admin has already posted that they are currently online. If you feel like you are in immediate danger, please call emergency services and/or go to the nearest hospital. I also recommend looking at our “I have an Emergency” page. Feel free to send in another ask if you feel that you have any more questions or need additional help.
