Guess which mutt got himself hit by a car today? 😫😭🥺 He’s totally 100% unaffected, but #tommybeaner decided to take a #walkonthewildside this morning. He was barely clipped by a tire and only took a single tumble. I, however, nearly died watching it unfold. But he’s okay and we’re watching for any signs otherwise very carefully. “ I don’t wanna fight right now “

he grips the railing tightly, aggression and exhaustion combining to form the reaction to crutchie’s words. he wants to go back to sleep, but he wants to sleep with no dreams. he wants to curl up in a corner, bury his head in his arms, and disappear from everybody’s sight. but there ain’t nothing more important to him than this one thing:  ❝ i don’t wanna fight neither. i just want ya to leave me alone, y’hear? ❞ 

he can’t even look at crutchie. he wants to forget about him for even a little while — and he really wants to forget why he’s broken and scrawny and sick. but he can’t, ‘cause the reason won’t leave him alone. he’d’ve stood up for any of his boys — he’s done more for kids he don’t even know — but it had been crutchie who’d been the one he’d needed to protect from them jerk-delanceys. and it’d been crutchie who’d got jack thrown back into the refuge for ‘vagrancy.’ 

and it’s crutchie he don’t want anywhere around.

he runs a hand through his dark, messy hair, nursing his too-cheap, too-strong coffee, leaning against the counter of the cluttered kitchen counter.  ❝ c’mon, crutch! you’s the one always after me ‘bout bein’ late for class. ❞  crutchie has always cared more about doing well at things than jack, for as long as they’ve been in the same home — probably younger, given who the younger kid is.

❝ this here’s as much your place as mine, kid! ❞  he grins, slinging his arm around crutchie’s shoulders and pulling him close as he ushers his little brother ‘round the new apartment.  ❝ even got youse a room here. ❞  the new jobs, illustrating for the world and the factories he’s started picking up some shifts at, have grown his saved pennies to a fund that actually allows for something besides surviving. leaving the lodging house was hard, but it’s better now — better standing in his house with crutchie at his side.

What I love about musical!Rita is that she very explicitly knows what she does not and does want in both sex and romance. Like you've mentioned in other posts, *she* is the one who initiates the kiss with Phil and everything thereafter. Frankly, I find her agency in this regard refreshing.

{ Yes! Yes, exactly. The fact that Rita has so much agency at that point is very important to me (and very rare, imo), especially considering where she and Phil are at the same point in act one. People can interpret it however they like, but... She’s very vocal about a lot of things, and being very sex-positive is one of them. }
