Couple of words from me about the possible call up for Jaelene Hinkle.
Today we got this 'amazing' article (Equalizer) about Jaelene Hinkle's chances for being called up again to the National Team. Jaelene Hinkle. Called up again. To the National Team. These nine words are scary - these nine words are literally scary. These nine words are bad - and something tells me that these nine words are true but I still hope that Jill won't make this mistake. To be honest: I do believe that girls are all professional and they would work with Hinkle on the professional level but the thing is - that Hinkle is not professional. There is no need for so many professional to work with someone that unprofessional on the National Team level. Hinkle acted unprofessional. Hinkle rejected the call up. Hinkle didn't tell anyone that she's actually rejecting the call up - until the last moment, one roster spot was wasted. One roster spot that we could possibly use for someone professional.
But I would like to tell you why these nine words are scary. These nine words (Jaelene Hinkle. Called up again. To the National Team) are scary because she's not even trying to hide the fact that she's a homophobe. She's not even trying to hide the fact that she uses faith as an excuse to spread hate. (Now: I'm not speculating about anybody's private life but look at Tobin Heath who believes in God, look at Taylor Smith who believes in God, look at Allie Long who is straight, who believes in God and sees nothing but love in gay people, she supports them). And then look at Jaelene Hinkle who says that she believes in the same God but hates people for who they are, for the way they were born. Look at Jaelene Hinkle who says that she believes in the same God (who said that we should treat people around us the same way we would like be treated) but actually hates people. People COMMIT SUICIDE BECAUSE OF THIS KIND OF HATE. People are "simply" DYING because of this hate. Look at Jaelene Hinkle who says that she believes in God - just to deny someone's humanity. Yes, she denied humanity not only of her teammates, her coach, her club teammates but also of her (I hope) former supporters. She dennie humanity of many, many, many people around the world - people that are struggling with who they are - because of obnoxious backstabbers like Jaelene Hinkle. These nine words are scary because US Soccer is - probably - about to give second chance to someone who denied OTHER PEOPLE'S HUMANITY. Imagine white player not celebrating a Black Live Month (if there was one, just imagine, do not be racist) - there would be ZERO questions about giving this player a second chance. I'm 100% sure.
These nine words are sad because there is nothing good and nothing right in giving a second chance to someone who denied someone's humanity. These nine words are sad because one day we're celebrating Pride Month and the other day we're (possibly) calling up someone who - again - denied humanity of those who we were celebrating with last month. There is no logic in it. But logic is not the thing that matters. The people who we celebrated with matter - their live, their humanity. USWNT supporters (I bet there are many of them still struggling with their sexual orientation) - they matter, all LGBT people - they matter. And I will tell you something personal - I have not identified my sexual orientation yet, though I'm close to say that I'm gay) and I found it pretty cool, pretty nice and calming to know (again: not speculating about players' private lives) that people like Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath or Kristie Mewis or Jodie Taylor or Rachel Daly (these two are not playing for the US, of course) are kinda like me and they are out there, they are playing soccer, they're doing someting great. And now I'm looking at these nine words and I'm about to feel the slap to my face that this call up would give me. This call up would slap every single USWNT supporter that is gay, that is or isn't struggling with it. And this is not right. This is just not right.
These nine words are bad because this call up would mean that: "Go on, act unprofessional, be a coward because you're scared of the rainbow. Act unprofessional because the fear is bigger than your commitment to what the US crest stands for" - go on but we will call you up again, it doesn't matter that you stabbed our backs. You know, I'm not even talking here about this "hate part" of this case - I'm talking about the unprofessional part of this case. Playing for the National Team is an honor but it's also a job - can you imagine missing a week in your job because you didn't like your co-worker's shoes' or jersey color? Would you still be working there after missing a week for such a little reason? I believe that you'd get fired. And this is the reason why Hinkle should be fired. This is the reason why Hinkle should not get this call up. She should not be called up again. NEVER. AGAIN. She decided to miss her "working days" and nobody knew about that. Like I wrote: roster spot was wasted. And one more thing: There was this interview (right before the Portland Thorns FC - NC Courage 1:4 game) in which she said that she doesn't mind not being called up because that would mean that all is going on according to His plan. So - judging by the fact that playing for National Team is an honor - why should we hand this honor over to someone who clearly doesn't want it?
PS. I'm sorry for all the grammatical mistakes I possibly made - English is not my native language and I'm still working on improvin it.
