Nicodemus flicked his ears.

He had let his emotion get the better of him. He wasn't ready to share his woes with the child in front of him. Why put that burden on her shoulders?

So he redirected to the issue that weighed on his mind. Anyway... You say you're safe?

Lavender, the little Mewtwo, gave him a questioning look. Y-Yeah...? Is there a reason I shouldn't be?

A reason she shouldn't be...

Humans.

You speak the humans' language... Is... Is your "dad" a human?

Possibilities swarmed in his mind. She was young. If this "dad" of hers was a human, then... Maybe he hadn't shown her his true colors yet... Maybe the threat was yet to come. Perhaps he was waiting for her to age some...

But still, he had to consider her point of view.

I'm not judging, if that's the case. You said he loves you, so it's not my place.

Ummm...

Suddenly, Nico realized something else--Something she had said. Wait, your dad isn't blood... But your mom is?

The little Mewtwo smiled. Yeah. She's a Mew. Daddy is too, but... It's kinda complicated? He wasn't always a Mew.

A Mew?

So she was lucky enough to know the Mew who had donated its DNA...

O-Oh?

But... A human? Becoming a Mew?

I could see a Mew becoming a human, but not the other way around. Humans can't transform.

Had they truly gone that far with their science?

Lav's ears flicked. I don't fully understand what happened. It's... a hard thing for him to talk about. Her hand moved to rest on her chin in a thoughtful manor. It's something to do with memories... Like, the Mew's memories were replaced with D-- with the human's.

Nico went silent, trying to process this concept.

Suddenly Lavender's image wavered, and she glanced around.

Disappointment fell over her features. Oh... I guess it's time for me to wake up.

Nico's heart skipped a beat.

She had enjoyed this!

He smiled, despite himself. Would you like to continue meeting like this?

Her pale purple tail wiggled. Yes, please! It's been great talking with you!

Nico's eyes closed as his smile widened. Likewise! Talk to you later, Lav.

See ya, Nico!

The young being faded from view, and Nico felt himself slip back into reality.

Nico sighed.

He was back at the cliff's edge, seated comfortably on a high up cliff, looking down on the quiet town below, nestled in a sea of trees. Dawn painted him and the town with a jovial glow.

The Mewtwo smiled.

Jovial.

Are you back?

Nico turned to see his tiny mate hover up to him. She had a cup in her hands. Yeah. How she managed to keep a grip on it with those little fingers, he would never know.

She smiled. I made tea for you~

He held his hand out to the freckled Mew. Thank you. He took a sip.

So, did you connect this time? Did you learn anything?

Nico took in the scent of the tea as he relived the dreamscape conversation. Yes... I... I don't know what to think. She's very young. She tells me she's safe. He gazed up at the sky, watching the stars peter out. I'll tell you more later... I have some things I want to think about now.

Jovie nodded. Alright! She gave him a little lick on his cheek. Try to get some decent rest, okay? I don't think a night of mental conversation counts.

She flittered away, letting her feather-soft tail brush his cheek as she went. Once she was gone, he returned his gaze outward.

Alrighty. So, Trials of Victory and Joy has hit an unintentional crossroads. For my own sanity, I would like to put more focus on one of the Mews, rather than try to juggle both along with the Lindens on the main blog.

So I'm wondering, would you rather I primarily follow Jovie, or Pari? (For now, not permanently.)

With Jovie, we're on the brink of seeing Nico and being able to interact with him. Which I know is an exciting idea for most of you.

With Pari, we'll be meeting her human friend, and potentially other relevant people. Like Pari, these are characters that I've had in my mind and life for over a decade.

I should say that I don't have to focus exclusively on one or the other. I just feel it could get confusing to flip-flop between them, and it would help me as the storyteller to tell the story better if I focus on one.

(I'll point out, though, that I can currently share doodles of Nico and Jovie, but I want to officially introduce Pari's peeps before doodling them. X3)

N-no, "we" isn't another Pokemon. Jovie's always been more interested in the kit thing than I am. I was with my human friend when she flew overhead.
