TOVE BARNES @tovebarnes Exhibition: It’s Always Raining Here, Even When It’s Not Here are a few portraits taken by @daverowswell that are from my solo show at @karstgallery back at the end of February before everything went downhill! The exhibition was called It's Always Raining Here, Even When It's Not, and was created during my time living in Plymouth over what felt like the bleakest winter of all time. It was my first time living alone, and other than University, my first time moving to a new place where I didn't know anyone, and it literally rained every day. This series of oil paintings go from being based on the proposal scene from Little Women and my overwhelming emotions upon watching it in the Cinema, to sitting in a pub lock-in at 6am wondering how I got there. These paintings are all oil on canvas. I've also included a picture of Keith, a man I met at the pub who agreed to play the keyboard at my private view, he finished with the Star Wars theme tune then fell of his chair. It was perfect. That pic was taken by @ddoommmmoorree I'm currently living in St Ives, and working in a home studio, trying to get used to making much smaller work. Me and my boyfriend George were about to move to Brighton (car was packed, accommodation sorted, jobs pending) when lockdown happened, so we've had to adjust our plans significantly. Like every other artist, this is a really, really tough time.
