Fantasy is essential to art history!
Today the professor used a lot of words like suggestion, hypothesis, imagination. Everything we saw is what it could have been used for. The actual use for spaces is only guessed at through written texts, evidence, and context. It's difficult to determine when all that remains are crumbling walls and mosaic floors. My classmates know so much about ancient history. I'm envious of their knowledge but so happy to be here learning from them! The teacher did call on me once and I was shocked he knew my name but I got the answer right! I am so afraid of answering questions wrong :( Tomorrow we start real excavating. We will be split into two groups to excavate different areas called trenches. We saw both areas today and I do have a preference but I'm sure I'm already assigned so I shall see which group I get. We also will be assigned group projects tonight on different areas of the villa. Now hopefully another dinner feast. I will take pictures of the food tonight, I was way too hungry yesterday! No gelato yet! Must accomplish that tomorrow.
