Flufftober, Day 4 - Sparklers and Fireworks

Took a brief break yesterday but I'm back with more tooth-rottingly cute goodness for day 4 of @flufftober2021

This time it's set in the Allotment AU that is on my list of projects. This snippet is post fic, after Jaq and Phineas have finally gotten over their pining and realised they're meant to be.

Jaq hauled the last of the brambles to the bonfire, depositing them in a heap with the rest of autumn die-back. They sidestepped the crowd of plot-holders all gathered around the heat, light dancing in their eyes, and brushed dead leaves and twigs from their jumper. A sudden crackle went up as someone threw debris upon the fire and sparks danced into the sky. It was a chill night, clouds of breath puffing in the air and mingling with the smoke, but their exertions had been enough to warm them.

They glanced around the allotments, searching for Phineas amongst the people sharing drinks and growing tips between the plots. There were carved pumpkins glowing on a few and someone was strumming a guitar further up the hill. As they wound their way between the sheds and veg patches, Jaq spotted sparklers fizzing away, clutched in tiny hands.

“That’s it! Marvellous! Make sure you hold it right out away from you – yes, perfect!”

Jaq grinned. Phineas was bundled up in his jacket and the scarf they had knitted for him and currently surrounded by a group of delighted children. As they watched, he aided a wide-eyed girl in writing her name in the air.

“Now, these sparklers have three main components,” he told the giggling children, all waving their arms around to paint pictures. “An oxidiser, a binder and a metal fuel - ferrotitanium in this case, which produces that lovely yellow-gold colour. Did you know, some of them contain the same component parts as gunpowder?”

There were little gasps at that. Jaq halted at the edge of the group, catching Phineas’ eye. He gave them a wink.

“They’re quite safe though,” he said to his enraptured audience. “They’re only present as reducing agents, to help the sparklers burn longer. There we are, put them out safely now.”

As he spoke, he directed the children to a bucket sat at his foot. Several quiet hisses sounded as the finished sparklers were deposited in the water.

“Now, you better run along and find a good spot. The fireworks will be starting soon!”

Jaq skipped aside to allow a stampede of diminutive feet and brightly coloured bobble hats to go rushing past. They made their way over to him as the children went careening down the path to their parents with happy yells.

“Teaching a chemistry lesson?”

“They’re never too young to learn.”

Phineas grinned as they adjusted his scarf and Jaq pressed a kiss to his cheek.

“Your face is cold,” they muttered and slipped their arms about his waist. Phineas hummed and tucked into them.

“I’m quite warm enough," he assured them, sliding his hands into their pockets. “Though, I wouldn’t mind some of that hot cider that was doing the rounds earlier. And perhaps a toffee apple?”

Jaq laughed quietly, always happy to indulge his sweet tooth.

“Alright. Let’s go and see what we can find.”

The Old Winners (new au)

Before you ask about the name, idk either. I couldn’t come up with one and my Discord was NOT helping (ily guys tho <3). 

SBI + Tommy medieval au! Except Tommy is (was) considered an official SBI member in this au :)

I WILL be taking Hcs for this au, at least for a day or two :)

- The SBI (yes, that includes Tommy) were a well-known fighter group

- They weren’t guards, mercenaries, or anything like that, but they were still really talented at fighting 

- They participated in a bunch of tournaments every year and won most of them

- Outside of tournaments and training, they were just normal people, and they were pretty close friends

- They lived in the same town but not in the same house, yet they still hung out a lot as well as trained a bunch 

- Techno was the “team leader” and Tommy was the “honorable member”

- (in reality, they didn’t really have any titles and Tommy was an official member, but there was always the running joke of “sbi plus Tommy” among them)

- Life went on as normal until after another win in a tournament, the team started getting bored of it 

- There were only so many different ways a fight or tournament could go and they felt like they had experienced all, if not most of them

- They had competed in very close tournaments, and they competed in ones they won by a landslide. They also competed in plenty that came somewhere inbetween

- They stopped participating in as many tournaments and eventually the team split up and they stopped doing them at all, 3 of the 4 members not wanting to continue all the fighting anymore 

- Philza went on to get married, Wilbur became a famous musician, Tommy became a salesman for his friend Tubbo, and Techno... disappeared

- All of them eventually moved away from one another and they stopped talking, continuing their lives as if none of the others had been involved in it at all...

...

- ...until one night, Tommy had a nightmare with the other three in it

- After so long of trying to push back his feelings of longing for the group, he decides then and there that he needs to bring the group back together, or at the very least have them all be friends again

- angst? yes. happy ending? idk, havent decided yet

Hello, I have very shit memory and I don’t know if I asked you but um do you have any songs I can add to my invader zim /ZADR playlist?

OH BOY DO I

For an immediate answer, here’s my Spotify Invadercore playlist (Invadercore made by theothernamewastaken if you’d rather search it up than use a link). That’s ten hours, 177 songs of bug antics for ye.

Now, mind, this is the playlist for my AU timelines. The first 2/3 or so are in chronological order to my timelines (yes plural), so include character arc themes, AU themes, scene specific tracks, stuff for supporting cast, etc. Plus a few joke songs or unsorted ones near the bottom, so if a few seem really out of place then that’s very likely why.

Now if ye want a specific answer with some of my top bug song recommendations, here’s a few I come back to time and again and have animatic ideas for:

- What’s Going On by Elio Mei : A theme for my Zim’s whole childhood on Earth, up to the start of my primary AU, Treading Open Water. A really fun and emotionally raw song that to a T encapsulates how I write his inner struggles.

- An Unhealthy Obsession by the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra ; Stalker’s Tango by Autoheart ; I Love You Like An Alcoholic by The Taxpayers (and several other songs of this ilk) : I have a whole myriad of obsession songs ranging from these variety, applicable to their early lives, up to more healthily mutual (as healthy as these two can get lmao) for the end of the AU.

- Alright by Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards : A really really good track perfect for any AU that gives them a growing pains period where they’re treating each other more like friends and finding comfort in that, but fighting that feeling and fighting officiating that. Which iiiis most of my AU! :D Especially on Zim’s side. A song very specifically about loving someone’s company but hating that you do.

- Beautiful & Brutal by Plested : The title is pretty self explanatory lmao. Same same but different to Alright, this is a track about being wholly aware of the negatives of this dynamic you’re a part of but wanting to stay anyway. See also- Red Flag by Natalie Jane, though that one is specifically for my Boarder AU.

- Final Bow by Us The Duo : One of my Zim arc songs for the very end of the AU, with the ‘you’ in this song referring to the Tallests and the Empire as a whole, for his whole relationship with Irk and Irken society. Specifically, about how he’s come to grow past it and knows how much better off he is without it.

- Emperor’s New Clothes by Jan : My main theme for my interpretation and writing of the Irken Empire, and a theme for my Tallest Et (yes Et like ET like extraterrestrial khkh). The lines throughout this song apply to certain Irken OCs of mine that are to be present in the part two of my AU, but the song as a whole can just generally fit Irken society and its relationship with its leader(s).

- The Red Means I Love You by Madds Buckley : A relationship song from Zim to Dib for my AU Boarder, but a good song for them regardless for their more violent and fucked up tendencies :)

I could go on and on, I’ve got a 50-ish page document where I just lay out all the songs in chronological order and dissect the lyrics as applied to my AUs lmaaaoo I’ve literally prepped for this kinda question. But these are some of the big songs I’ve had set for a while that have strong ties to how I write these chucklefucks. I hope you like a least a few of these, have fun listening! :D
