I was wondering about the 'code green' thing in wwc. Does the city have an actual protocol that we'll learn about later, or is it more like ''it's illegal to interact with the supernatural so we pretend to not see it''?

So the codes have a bit of history (I’m planning on making a section on the menu all about the regular town stuff that won’t be covered in depth in the story proper)

So the codes were set in place for a good purpose, by an old mayor who did want to protect the human population. There was once a group dedicated to aiding people who were in trouble. Since then the codes have been kept in place but it’s just for show. To give the idea that sure these supernatural occurrences are totally being dealt with and we’re not leaving our defenceless human populace to be fodder for supernatural creatures 🙂😉

i was re-reading "prom" and just realised that you use "autumn" instead of "fall". at first i thought it was just a fae thing (i noticed it when belle was speaking) but then lauren used it too and she was the newest addition to the group at the time and hadn't had the chance to get all fae-ified yet. i never really clocked it before because my country, being commonwealth, uses british english so it never pinged until now. is it a regional thing in the usa or is it just personal preference?

i'm honestly not sure! where i live, people use 'autumn' and 'fall' pretty interchangeable, but im in a very distinct linguistic area that retains a lot of 18th/19th scottish and irish traits despite how long its been because the appalachian mountains are a kind of inherent isolative force. you may have heard some people refer to an appalachian accent as "twisted shakespeare" so we're still out here saying shit like 'on the morrow' and the occasional "ye" and using "blast" as a swear word. my sole exposure to what most non-americans would consider 'general american accent' is from tv, so i rarely know better than yall what the yuppies are saying lol

I haven't sent anything in a hot minute oh wow- anyhow, to start with something a bit mundane and small, what is everyone's favorite drink? Like, Karl and the townsfolk I mean? I don't think I've asked that yet, and I think it'd just be interesting to know honestly. Getting to know the characters better and all that.

Okay, I'm actually doing some research first to see what drinks would actually be available out there, and while it was mostly alcohol, some places did import barrels of clean water. Pretty interesting. I'm not interested or old enough to drink alcohol so while this list may not be entirely accurate, it'll certainly be fun to put together.

Crops has two different answers because he can't choose and will eat whoever tries to press the issue.

Water - Billy, Percy, Crops and Ron

Milk - John and William

Coffee - Karl

Beer - Connor and Thompson

Wine - Priest

Blood - Crops and George

Whiskey - Jack and Mason. Mason only drinks the brand [redacted] Whiskey. He'll spit out any other brand. He can always taste the difference. He knows that taste- well, maybe not by heart but more like the back of his hand.

Hello! I wanna say rq I love WWC— I’m so invested in the story oml. I do have a question. So sorry if I missed this being explained but I was wondering why nobody considers that MC’s episodes might be because of some sort of supernatural influence? At least, I haven’t seen anyone bring up— even the MC doesn’t seem to think about it. Since the whole town is well aware of cryptids and supernatural events, I’d think it would at least be something to think about. Even if it is due to MC and there isn’t any supernatural influence, you’d think it would still be something they’d look into. Especially with a normally sweet/kind MC, considering their episodes seem to make them aggressive/cruel.

It’s a position thing. The supernaturals are seen to mess with poor people. There’s a reason why all the side quests deal with poor to middle class people.

To have the founding family be haunted by a supernatural force would mean they have no control. And if the founding family has no control then why should they be so important?

Also there’s this idea that it would give them some type of grace to think all that that family has done was not their fault. I haven’t explored it much —lowkey thinking of adding it— where the Crowns aren’t liked. And it’s not because of Crowny solely, the dislike has been there. People don’t say anything nice about them at all. Orla was liked in spite of her last name. The Crowns are, well, they’re there like the trees are there but as far as many residents are concerned they haven’t done anything good for the town in decades. So giving their horrible and immoral actions an excuse in the supernatural is not something anyone is keen to do. It’s very much “let’s play the tiniest violin in the world for the poor rich family”

Lastly, it was very important for Victor to make sure his youngest was just seen as mentally ill. Otherwise, well it wouldn’t be his ideal come since he can’t control them (this part only really makes sense to me since it’s a spoiler)

Crowny has lived with this their whole life. The reason they don’t think about it too much is because they don’t know what to do about it. It’s kind of like living with schizophrenia before it was a better known illness, you just lived with it because you didn’t know how to get rid of it. Sometimes the voice and the episodes would go away long enough to think they could be gone with enough medication. It makes little difference whether their issues are mentally or not, it doesn’t change their life circumstance. Tbh I feel they’ve never had hope to be free of it and so just try to live with it

I'm likely missing something obvious again but I don't understand why anyone would treat the Crown family with respect as it doesn't seem to have anything going for it beside the name. Sure it owns a lumber company but it's not making a profit (which is weird by itself but I digress). The stargirl was murdered and there's no answers about why or who. People must notice the manor falling apart, their staff constantly diminishing in size etc. It honestly seems like (to me at least) the only two families in town who care at all about treating the Crowns with anything other than open disdain are the other two gentry family patriarchs (for lack of a better term), and that confuses me too.

Mr Mir hectors Nia about the importance of keeping a good relationship with MC's family, but I just really don't see why. He's rich, likely knows everyone Sally and Victor does, and his heiress is best friends with the Mayor's son. We don't see Mr Duran but Imre mentions him sometimes and he seems amenable enough to the Crowns. (Though he might be lying. Imre does that a lot.)

So, what gives? Just tribal loyalty to the others in the elite category? I know this is a bit of a ramble, and the answers are almost certainly plot related but it's killing me.

Answer: it’s mostly plot related. But another lesser reason that I can mention is that, these crème of the crop, founding families are traditionalists. It makes them feel superior to the other residents to have been the first ones here. The crowns have buildings named after them, they did quite a lot for the town itself, this new generation might be a step down from the previous ones but they ride the coattails of their ancestors. Like there is a certain gravitas to being in history class and studying the family history of your classmate because they are so intertwined with the town itself

Crowny says something in episode 9, that is to the effect of “the family is the lifeblood of the town.” Without them what would happen?

That’s not to say that there aren’t current tensions behind the scenes. I can’t show much because Crowny’s pov is limited but the position Sally holds is growing increasingly weak (good example is that he seems to defer to the mayor in episode 8). The others families are growing… restless. They are questions being asked in regards to if it’s time for a “change”

Ultimately though, the loyalty the elites have to each other —as long as you scratch my back I scratch yours— cannot be understated. The crowns might be poor but they hold power in a very specific way and to the other families it counts a lot to be a blue blood

So when i began reading i thought the towns opinion towards the supernatural was more like "oooh dont go to the forest alone bc weidd stuff tends to happen there so often people lowkey started believing something spooky is going on oooooh" and they were right something out of the ordinary is happening, they have their suspicions, but they haven't actually seen it in real time

So colour me surprised when the side quests started happening. Like there is a whole ass shop that sells taxidermied animals but the butch lesbian hasn't been doing so well eversince the animals started biting. Old guy blew up his house due to cheese mice. We have a dangerous mermaid chilling in the pond. Baba yaga might cross your path when taking a stroll through the woods. Multiple cases of vampirsm, ghosts and demons????

This is not me complaining btw, im just so perplexed to how the people to your story react to the supernatural, bc you see them just kinda existing, not particularly accepted by the masses, but also nobody talks shit about how dangerous or weird or whatever they are, and I know thats partly due to the evil mayor wanting to keep everything hush hush. But like everybody is so nonchalant about then but also scared?? but also nobody takes big precautions about how to protect themselves besides "hey dont go there" and maybe wearing a cross

(Im very much aware that all this very much mirrors what is happening to the random cultish killings)

But yeah is this the behavior only of this specific town or is the entire world like this

That’s rather overdone to me, I found it more fascinating for the town to know but simply ignore it. Out of sight out of mind. The town is still standing so why change the status quo? The fear is new, because the killings have been far more frequent and the bodies being found are more numerous.

Before Orla’s death, people died but their bodies were never found in such a way and so close to home. It’d be one thing if the killings remained in the woods, but now it’s encroaching of the very town which is why it’s harder nonchalant about it but at the same time no one knows how to do anything but. You got the parents beginning to protest but if you’re kept out of the dark, you either seek the light or remain in ignorant (sometimes) bliss

No. Croun is special, there are supernatural beings around the world but never in such density as is in this place
