Just updated the cartography on our site to @stamen's beautiful watercolor tiles!
Small Cities, Big Ideas
Growing up in the small town of Prescott AZ I saw a lot of businesses come and go. Being a sleepy little mountain town it was off the radar of most big businesses, though we got a steady stream of average stores trying their luck. What always amazed me was how far people would drive to get a quality product. Phoenix is about two hours away from Prescott, but lots of people i knew would drive that distance just to shop at Trader Joes.
I can't tell you how many times I heard people around town say, we should get together and create a petition to get a Trader Joes here. Of course nobody ever did, but if you do an online search today there are actually lots of communities still talking about trying to get a petition together to bring one to their town. Technology has advanced a lot in the past decade, yet communities don't have the tools to take advantage of it and communicate their needs more effectively.
I created Towngap to help cities tell the world exactly what they need, and use modern technology to connect them with the entrepreneurs and brands that can make it happen. And even though the idea started in a small town, it's really meant for communities of all sizes. After living in NYC for the past decade, it's easy to think we have it all here… but then again we don't have an In-n-Out Burger... yet!
