Today, the 5th grade Robotics Club visited the site of our future Saugus Middle-High School. Students learned how technology and robotics benefit construction, toured the construction site, and experienced virtual reality. We are proud to provide the future of Saugus with a 21st century learning experience! More photos to come tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who came out to join the Selectmen, School Committee members, and myself in celebrating the Town’s continued and recent accomplishments and success. This special celebratory event highlighted the Town’s historic accomplishments and success, including the overwhelming Town-wide support for a new, 21st century education plan and grades 6-12, new MSBA Middle-High School District Wide Master Plan Solution; a $65.1 million Grant through the MSBA for the new Middle-High School; the Town’s financial success and stability; green initiatives including the investment of electric cars and an electric car charger; $5.5 million in outside grants/funding over the past 3+ years; capital improvements made to several local parks and playgrounds and much more. A Brilliant Past and a Bright Future

I’ve just read Town Of Apex manager Bruce Radford’s resignation letter that he wrote to his staff and current town council earlier this afternoon. In it, he mentions his family, his health and his overdue vacations. Bruce has quarterbacked Apex through both fat and lean times and now, like John Elway, he is retiring after helping his “team” reach #1. While his institutional knowledge will be impossible to replace, I am quite confident that we, as a town, will continue to operate smoothly. Bruce has assembled a staff that can keep the wheels turning while the new council makes plans to find a replacement town manager that is equipped to help us navigate the inevitable growth in a smart manner, ensuring we are a fully functional town growing to 50,000+ residents within the next couple of years. As the next mayor, I will work with the council to step through the selection process and cast a wide net in order to identify the best possible candidates. Our goal, as the new council, will be to look for the best town manager for handling the day-to-day operations of a growing town our size -- it will be more important for us to take the time to find the right person, than to do it quickly for the sake of expediency. We appreciate the guidance Bruce has provided our town staff over the past 14 years, and now we begin the preparation for the future -- a bright future.
