toxic mizunene oneshot I wrote earlier this year

The subtle smell of salt and dominating yet silent crash of foamy waves against the beach's shore filled the cherub's ears as she landed with a click of her heels against the rock. She stared out at the vast ocean, her mind set to one goal and unwavering. From below the blue water a faint silhouette of something oddly human rose to the surface, peeking her head up from the water just below her nose she was met with the familiar pink hair of the cherub, her face smiling down at her with a smile the mermaid was sure meant infatuation. “Good morning, little fish” The cherub greeted, her voice putting on a thick mask of joy at seeing the mermaid. Coming up further out of the water and hauling her upper body onto the rock she replied, “Good morning Mizuki, it's nice to see you again.” The mermaid said, happy to see who she presumed to be the love of her life… and first love at that. Mizuki simply hummed at her greeting, still plastering that same smile of “love” at the mermaid. “How has your day been so far, Nene?” Mizuki quipped, tilting her head at Nene from her still standing position. The familiar thrill of toying with the unknowing and fresh feelings of the mermaid filled the emotionless void that consumed where the feelings that should be what she should feel for nene resided. Being a cherub meant that Mizuki was unable to feel what friendship or love should be, and her roman empire would come crashing if she were to show any sort of emotion that would make her lesser so she preferred to just lie to the people she claimed to have feelings for. 

Nene, ever unaware, just gave back a tentative smile, her cheeks dusted with that warm pink that always appeared when Mizuki was around. Mizuki stood close enough to the edge of the rock above the water to prevent Nene from climbing up completely, forcing the mermaid to look up at her. Mizuki finally stood straight up, now not even taking glances at Nene and just staring at the skyline, her wing gave a small flick, causing a few loose feathers to drift down and onto the water with a small plop. Nene gave a happy chirp from her throat, the fins on the side of her head waving back and forth as the trill rang. “Y’know.. M-maybe we could sit together today.. You dont always have to leave so s-” The bottom of Mizuki's foot met Nene's forehead, forcing her off the rock and into the water. “Dont be stupid.” Mizuki spat, her facade of joy falling into disgust and disdain. “You know that it's not going to happen, so why keep asking. Or are you that desperate to see me upset? Is that what you want from me? My despair and discomfort you sicko? “ Mizuki growled through her teeth, pushing nene further under the water before giving one last shove and removing her foot. Nene quickly came back above the water in a guilty panic, her voice wavering as she said, “No! Not at all! I-im sorry, I forgot you didnt like that.. I-I’ll be better i swear!” The mermaid pleaded as the cherub stared down at her with a death stare. “Im not coming tomorrow, maybe then you’ll think twice before making such drastic pleas.” Mizuki said, fighting a laugh at the pure fear that fell upon Nene's face when the threat was made. “O-Ok.. I’m sorry…” Nene said before guilt took over and she ducked back underwater and promptly swam away, leaving Mizuki alone. The cherub broke into an unfaltering grin, chuckling at the hurt of the mermaid. “Yes, swim away little fish.. You’ll come back to me anyways.”
