Spent the day working on Toya’s musical education. She’s only heard 1D and she doesn’t really know any of their songs. Started with Prince, took a while for her to like it but she came round eventually. Then we were watching videos on YouTube together from a playlist I made of female pop (http://goo.gl/irPEiw) She liked Katy Perry and Toyah, but didn’t like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Knicks. I had to leave after 2 hours of doing it, she asked me to bring the tablet so we can do it again next time “but with more boy music.” Was a bit gutted that maybe I had planted a little seed that might flourish into pro-female empowerment, but maybe it needs a bit more watering. Obviously don’t care if she identifies more as male, I’d like to help her at least like girls. Doing this through music is something I know, it’s ageless and diverse. She’s having a sleepover at mine in a few weeks which I think I’m looking forward to more than she is. Any suggestions for what I can put on the pro-girl playlist are appreciated btw!
