So I held off on answering this one for my happy Trap Obidala headcanons because I'm going to integrate some details from the chapter I just posted. Nothing actually spoilery but if you're a stickler for context go read that first

What’s their love languages?

So I sort of answered this in the last post talking about Obi-Wan's tendency to perform acts of service and Padme's tendency for extravagant gifts as a way to demonstrate their love. So lets flip it and talk about what their partner does that makes them feel loved. Obi-Wan enjoys the gifts Padme gives him very much moreso for the effort and thought behind them than the gift itself. But the thing that he thinks about when he thinks of Padme's love is the way she feels warm against his back when she slips into bed at night and presses a kiss between his shoulder blades when she thinks he's asleep. Padme adores the how in tune Obi-Wan is with her needs, the way he looks after her when she forgets to look after herself, but what makes it special is the time he spends with her while he's doing it. When he accompanies her on the walk to ensure she takes it. Or insists on them sitting down to dinner together so he can make sure she actually eats. Sometimes she pretends to be a little more distracted than she actually is just because she knows that will always activate his 'mother hen' tendencies.

3. Who cooks? Who cleans up? Who’s banned from the kitchen?

They are both banned from the kitchen!! Seriously Obi-Wan has lived most of his life on field rations, commissary food and Dex's. Padme has had a personal chef since the age of thirteen. They are disasters. They are not allowed anywhere near the kitchen. Obi-Wan is only allowed to come in to make tea, and even that isn't really appreciated. He did try to have Dex teach him to make Panna cakes and omelets for Padme as a wedding gift. It went so well, Dex just came to Naboo himself for a few weeks when they got married. (He comes back and cooks for them once a year when the staff are on vacation). Padme can in fact bake, but she always chooses the most complicated and elaborate recipes which requires over half a day to prepare and inevitably gets pulled away for some incredibly important, so the staff always starts to get worried when she gets that 'domestic' gleam in her eye.

9. Baths or showers together? Do they like elaborate ones with bubbles and flower petals?

Baths. Definitely. Padme has an enormous tub at her disposal and they make good use of it. The first time Obi-Wan drew a bath to help her relax, she insisted he join her and it has since very much become a thing they do together. They both lean a little bit into the ritual of it. Obi-Wan turns the whole act of preparing the bath into a bit of a love letter, choosing exactly the bath salts, and oils and candles to set the mood depending on what it feels like she needs (from romantic, to comforting to tranquil, etc.) Sometimes they just sit and talk, sometimes they hold each and say nothing, sometimes they even just read together. Occasionally Padme will let Obi-Wan wash her hair. She's more than a little exacting about it but he's very good at taking instruction. Still the man has feelings about her hair so she can't let him do it all the time or very little actual relaxing would happen.

18. What does a date night out look like for them?

Well when they're on Coruscant they always go to Dex's at least once. Obi-Wan does eventually take her to a bar he frequents with Quinlan but its difficult to hear and they really like talking to each other, so neither of them enjoy it that much. Honestly they're both so busy that when they spend time together they aren't that interested in going anyplace. So they mostly spend their date nights at home playing Dejarik or reading or just holding each other and talking.

28. What’s something that reminds them of their partner(s)? Do they have anything on them daily as a reminder (a photo, phone background, tattoo, clothing/accessory, etc)?

They keep the comm-links they use to communicate with each other. Long after they're old and out of date and they've upgraded to something better, they both keep the comm-links they used to talk to each other while they fell in love. Obi-Wan because Padme gave it to him. Padme because she's saved every message Obi-Wan ever left for her. She used to listen to them when Obi-Wan was off-world on a mission with Anakin and couldn't talk, and even now she'll occasionally take them out and replay them.

For the WiP Ask: Trap (Obidala) 👀

Oh thank you for asking about this. This fic is so dear to me pardon me while I ramble a lot.

A Trap of Your Own Making for anyone who is unfamiliar with this fic, is my canon-compliant obidala gap fill. Yes. Really. It is, as strange as it sounds, my love letter to OWK and tries to write a backstory for this pairing that could still allow OWK to happen unaltered but provide as much emotional weight behind the way Obi-Wan talks about Padme in that show as possible. The general premise explores how Obi-Wan and Padme’s relationship and the way they feel about each other throughout the arc of the prequels (good, bad and ugly) plays out within and contributes to what we see happen in canon.

The story starts smack dab in the back half of TPM establishing a connection between these two that while essentially platonic (at least for Obi-Wan) is still complicated and intense. I’ve completed the Naboo arc and am currently working on the next chapter which picks up during the 10 gap between TPM and AotC. We will eventually work all the way through AotC, TCW and RotS, taking into account everything that happens between these two and Anakin at least within on screen canon.

It does have a trigger warning for emotional infidelity in upcoming chapters (again canon-compliant), but it is honestly the most ‘faithful’ emotional infidelity I can write. Like these two love Anakin so much. But they also love each other, no matter how much they refuse to call it that or wish it were otherwise. They will tear themselves apart in order not to betray him and still somehow make choices that while understandable and rooted in the best of intentions will from Anakin’s POV legitimately feel like a betrayal. Hence the title. (Also my unofficial subtitle: “or how Obi-Wan and Padme fell in love and accidentally broke the galaxy”)

Okay with that really long intro/pitch and as a reward for sticking with me while I rambled about the fic that is definitely closest to my heart here’s a very obidalay excerpt from the upcoming chapter behind the read more cut for spoiler protection (as if I haven’t already done that)

FIC SPOILERS

- First meeting post the Naboo arc. Set a little over 2 years after TPM during Nute Gunray’s first trial -

He knew Padme would be there. But the knowledge doesn’t prepare him. Maybe it’s the way this trial has dredged up everything about that time and brought it close to the surface. Or maybe it’s the fact that after that moment with Master Billaba he’s become adept at shoving every thought of her into the far back corner of his subconscious so quickly he could almost convince himself he doesn’t think about her at all. Or maybe he has simply missed her more than he let himself realize.

Whatever it is, the first time he catches sight of her, tucked in among the handmaidens, it feels like he’s been hit by a Gundark, and all he can think as he takes his seat across the courtroom from the Queen’s retinue is it's a good thing he didn’t see her before he testified.

She looks exactly the same and completely different and he can’t make himself look away.

The hood pulled up around her face somehow does more to accentuate her features than obscure them, giving him nowhere to look but the newly sharpened line of her cheekbone, the deep brown eyes that catch his gaze and won’t let go, the way her mouth curves in a small, secret smile that he can’t seem to stop himself from returning.

He wasn’t sure what he expected when he saw her again. Had determinedly done his best to have almost no expectations at all. Not after the way they parted. After he had used her terribly and then tossed her aside. Nevermind that he’d done it for Anakin, who had always been her first priority. Nevermind that she had agreed to the exact scheme. Or how little he had wanted to, how many hours he had waited on that bench hoping for the chance to explain himself, to apologize. The end result was the same. The sin was his. She has every right to be angry with him at least. Indifferent at best.

The fact she seems to be none of those things feels life altering. A grant of absolution he didn’t know he needed.

He’s not entirely sure what to do with this unexpected absolution, but that turns out to be okay because Padme decides for him.

So apparently some things haven’t changed.

“Knight Kenobi,” Sabe’s voice carries well across the antechamber.

He turns and bows low at their approach, “It is good to see you again, your Majesty.”

“And you. You spoke well on our behalf. Naboo is grateful for your continued friendship.”

“I merely spoke the truth. And as for my friendship,” his eyes slide over to where Padme stands just at Sabe’s shoulder before he can stop himself, “Naboo embraced me in an hour of great need. I can think of nothing that would change the affection I hold for it.”

“Then I wonder if I might impose upon you for a favor.”

“Of course.”

“My handmaiden,” Sabe turns to direct his attention to Padme, which is good because his eyes haven't left hers, “has an errand I need her to run for me. Coruscant is very large and we are all still finding our way. Would you be willing to escort her on your way back to the Temple?”

“It would be my pleasure.”

They are halfway to the transport platform before his brain catches up with him enough to pose a critical question. “Where are we going?”

Padme bites at her lower lip. “Would you be terribly cross with me if I told you there is no errand?”

“Absolutely.” Obi-Wan deadpans, ignoring her small gasp of indignation, as he continues, “Because now I have to admit I’d been planning on getting lost.”

He’d almost forgotten how much he likes making her laugh.

Yay new ship asks! I’ve been working on Trap and they’ve been so cute in this section. So I will continue answering on behalf of that version. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to imagine more of their alt-happy ending before I have to break them:

4. What’s their favorite sleeping/cuddling positions? Padme is the big spoon. I mentioned this in the last post but by the time they get together Obi-Wan has almost died one to many times for her comfort. So she likes to shelter him with her entire body. And woebetide anyone who tries to get through.

7. Who is the more romantic one? They are each fairly romantic in entirely different ways. Obi-Wan is thoughtful and service oriented. He knows exactly what’s going on with Padme and when she’s been pushing herself to hard. He’s always the one to get her to step away. He’ll draw her a bath, bring her tea, rub her feet. Little things in the ordinary course of their days. Padme is all about the gesture. She’s preoccupied most of the time and she knows it. But she also never wants Obi-wan to doubt how wanted he is. So she goes big and difficult. A rare force text she had to negotiate two treaties just to purchase. Nine kinds of tea from across the galaxy which may have required reopening a trade route. She wants him to know it took effort so he’ll understand how worth the trouble she finds him.

12. Who gets up the earliest? Who has the worst sleep schedule? Who is the sleepiest?

Obi-Wan gets up earliest to meditate but then he’ll slip back in bed afterwards to spend it cuddled up with Padme. Padme cannot stand to stay in bed once she’s awake. So she’s usually the first one fully up. Padme had the worst sleep schedule after years of flipping back and forth between Coruscant and Naboo plus all those political gatherings. Neither of them are particularly 'sleepy' people. Though Obi-Wan can sleep literally anywhere, and Padme despises him for it. On the other hand Obi-Wan had basically crossed over into a state of exhaustion so deep he didn't recognize it for what it was until he started to come out of it. So Padme's murderous impulses whenever she sees him sleeping while she's still trying to get comfortable and turn her brain off are usually tempered by this wash of gratitude that he's finally getting some rest, and everyone stays safe.

13. What’s their opinions on PDA?

They are very much in favor of it. They just are very bad at it. Like seriously these two waited so long to just really touch each other with any sort of intent, that everything feels like PDA to them. (They're also very good at intense eye sex, and explicit silences, or the ever popular 'not safe for work' touch that doesn't actually happen). They'll go to parties and Obi-Wan will put his hand on her low back for like five seconds, and this is basically foreplay. Padme will apologize profusely to her friend later for them being so obnoxiously handsy . . . her friend will just look at her like she's insane.

22. How do they apologize after arguments?

Mostly they don't, simply because while they're both passionate and resolute in argument, they're not cruel. Neither one of them are the type to lash out with the specific intention to hurt and both of them can take a hit. So even when their arguments get heated, they usually are doing so from a place of respect for the other and they can see that. They're both confident enough in who they are as people to accept that they will not always agree and handle that.

But in the rare cases emotions run high enough that they need to step away and come back they're pretty matter of fact about it. No gestures or gifts, just a simple sincere apology and being prepared to listen to the other.

27. Who would propose? What would their wedding be like?

Obi-Wan does. Padme wanted to. Almost did about ten times and stopped herself out of a desire to respect any lingering qualms he might have from his Jedi upbringing. Then one evening Obi-Wan's watching her get ready for bed and he just asks, almost shyly "Would you ever consider marrying me?" Padme nearly falls out her chair at the realization that she's gone and fallen in love with such an idiot.

There is the wedding Padme plans and the wedding they actually have. Padme plans the most elaborate damn wedding Naboo has ever seen. It is the galactic event of the year. She intends to invite the entire order, and the gungans, most of the senate (not Palpatine). Every handmaiden who has ever stood with her will give her away. She has four wardrobe changes and they all mean something. People are going to remember and know that she went married this Jedi. He's hers.

The wedding they actually have after she sees the look of unmitigated horror in Obi-Wan's eyes when he sees the sketches. Is cliffside in the palace gardens where she sat with him after Qui-Gon died. The council does attend, as well as Anakin, and all of Padme's handmaidens. Bail and Mon come but she leaves the rest of the senate off. She's flexible and willing to compromise while she keeps working on his aversion to spectacle (she's seen him fight, there's a showman in there somewhere she knows it). And she plans on there being many many many anniversaries to work with in the future.
