My own worst enemy II Training one-shot
Many of them outsized me but when it came to wit at least I felt slightly more confident. I knew Kanter was almost directly in front of me as we were marched in but I made no eye contact. Hymn was down the line and I looked back and laughed because that kid just got to me- he didn't care about the superficiality of the games enough to even get out of his pajamas. My District partner Harlequin lead our twosome into the mock-arena and I could tell a bunch of girls who were already situated abruptly swiveled around to see him.
"..that must be the life" I whispered to him which eased the tension a bit. We dispersed to our necessary sections after a brief introduction and I bolted towards the poisons station, just to show off a little. I loved chemicals and their disgusting odor reminded me of being on set only a few months ago. I was well versed in a few of the stranger concoctions as their products yielded various components needed for special effects work. I tried to work apart from the other tributes who were just becoming comfortable with the vials because there was no way in hell I was going to let them accidentally spill some Diisopropyl Peroxydicarbonate on me. Once I was satisified and caught a glimpse of the gamemakers watching my intricate and memorized work from above, I left the station to pursue something I was not so confident in.
Pushing past sparring tributes I shifted nervously towards the rock wall. With my rash thinking skills I made a running start and tried to latch on, only to fall on the hard ground. I could hear chuckling in the distance so I made an effort not to grimace in anger as I got back up to start from square one. I gently placed my foot on the first peg and attempted to squeeze myself up the wall. Nope, not happening. Next I tried to pull myself up just with my arms and the results were close to embarrassing Realizing I had to get my shit together, I became infuriated with the wall. I spent several hours pulling, reaching and tumbling until I made it half-way up. Harlequin clapped in mock appreciation as I shot him the finger and stuck out my tongue. I was proud. I definitely wasn't even close to the strongest tribute here but this practice today made me feel slightly better for the arena. I continued this venture for a while and eventually, against all odds, I chimed the bell at the top of the wall. It was probably a small feat but the success gave me new-found confidence. I repelled down like it was no problem and attempted to smirk off any mentions of my previous falls. Now the ball was rolling on this whole "impressive new Anders" status so I marched for the axes.
The trainers guided me in hitting moving targets and I actually enjoyed wielding the weapon. It made me feel in control and I wasn't half bad at fatal swinging at the dummy until his poor fluffing was all but gone. I continued to try to blend in with my competition so I talked with a few tributes and stretched for a little while.
