We had seen a lot by that point, but this pretty much stopped us cold. We managed to track it down, changed our plans for the next few days, and flew to Kazan, Russia to see the show at the Kazan State Circus. The act was performed on ice with four polar bears. You can see their trainer, Yulia Denisenko, in the video and photo. All of the bears wore metal muzzles and the trainers carried metal rods. Each bear did tricks individually. When the other three weren't doing tricks, they lay down and rubbed their entire bodies on the ice. They'd scratch it up and eat it. Performing polar bear acts are very rare. This may be the only one in the world right now. Many Russians have protested against the act.
