Squee!!! Elephantastic @sheldricktrust Cutie Mukkoka develops a distinctive shuffle when he knows milk is waiting for him at the other end. He’s always been this way: The first milk dash is from 2019, shortly after his rescue; the second is from just a few weeks ago. As you’ll see, not much has changed! During a routine aerial patrol, the leader of our SWT/KWS Tiva Anti-Poaching Team spotted the footprints of a lone elephant calf along the Tiva River. All because of this incredible sighting from the air, Mukkoka was saved. Everyone is so smitten with the new rescue and constantly shuffle around her. Sometimes, they’re a bit over-eager in their attentions: While Nabulu and Larro appointed themselves her nap time guardians, it seems they might have been more of a hindrance than a help, judging by Olorien’s rather short-lived snooze! We recently moved them from our Kaluku Field HQ to Voi, where they can continue their reintegration journey. The elephant orphans now have a new favorite pastime — trying to chase the pair away — but their blitzes rarely have the desired effect, as Cheza and Ivia are unflappable.
