shinichiro throughout the series has been painted positively by everyone and it’s normal to be suspicious but to accuse him of something as serious as that while reading too much into the dialogues when you know yourself that translations aren't reliable? and that the some dialogues aren't that deep in japanese? anyway im gonna debunk some stuffs because as a shinichiro stan i know his character a little more

• Mikey and manjiro

Mikey created that name for himself because he wanted emma to feel welcome. In a country like japan where you’re supposed to blend in, I promise you it can feel very uncomfortable when you’re the odd one out. Before he knew it, it became his whole image, ‘the invisible mikey’. I think it’s similar to Senju where she had something like a stage name. In his little world of delinquency well of course he’d want to keep that cool name. This brings me to my next point

Say whatever you want about tokyo revengers, ken wakui or mikey - but the fact the whole fandom and their mothers lose their shit over a little twist in mikey's personality is top tier writing. We all knew what mikey is capable of but because we got a hidden unreliable narrator and a very slow and inconspicuous build up to his character we still are surprised.

Try to accomplish this first before you judge.

Ok, I have read through the new Shinichirou theory, and I have reasonably collected my thoughts on it. Just as a heads up, I’m not going to go into detail on anything triggering, so if you’ve been trying to avoid that, I won’t talk about it in this post.

What bothers me about the theory is that not only is it nit picky, but it doesn’t add anything substantial to Mikey’s character or the story at large. Mikey’s story is very much his personal struggle with loss and mental illness. This to me speaks of the same mindset as those upset that Mikey had mental health issues before Shin died. It comes from a desire to excuse Mikey’s actions instead of accepting that he can be mentally ill and do bad things that aren’t justified.

Mikey’s dark impulses and everything about his mindset are about his inability/ lack of tools to cope with trauma/loss. Mikey has always struggled and Shinichirou has always been integral to helping Mikey manage his dark impulses. His death meant losing support same with every other major death the past timelines in tr. That’s the point of Shinichirou’s character. Has he been mythologized by the characters and delinquent world at large? Yes, but that doesn’t mean he’s secretly a bad person. Also, Takemichi is constantly compared to Shin, so it would be weird for shin to be a bad person because what does that say about Takemichi?

To me, it speaks of a common mindset that if someone is abused, they are automatically moral in their actions. They’re justified because they had something bad happen to them. This isn’t true. Mikey doesn’t need to have some huge trauma to be mentally ill. He doesn’t need to be justified in his actions. He’s way more interesting as a morally grey character. Mental illness and trauma are not moral. Sometimes the trauma you receive from people in your life is no one’s fault. Having trauma and being abused does not make you a good person, it just makes you traumatized. Mikey right now isn’t a good person and that’s okay because he has been trying to be a better one through the whole story. He asked for help and now Takemichi is trying to give him a chance to heal.

I’m not assigning this mentality to op because I don’t know them, but I felt I could contribute to the conversation and the way the fandom has been reconciling their image of Mikey in the wake of 241.
