Trabant portrait, 1970. From the Budapest Municipal Photography Company archive.
One of the best parts of being in eastern Germany is Trabis.
Look at them. They’re so cute and perfect. Stinky little babies!
Quick explanation for non-Germans: The Trabi (their official name is Trabant) was built in East Germany before the unification and was the most common car there. They stopped making them pretty soon after the unification cause now people could buy the fancy cars from the west. So they mostly disappeared as daily cars in the east and never made it to the west, but many in the east still kept theirs. And now 35 years later they’re still (or again) beloved by many. According to Wikipedia there are still almost 40,000 registered and the number has been growing for years. You still don’t really see them in the west, I think I’ve seen two over the past year. And now two during the four seminar days in the east, even though I spent most of the day at the dojo.
Okay I am a little to obsessed with Prussia in his Trabant I will admit 🖤🤍🖤
