Notes: Relatable, believable

Wow! I LOVED this book! The characters were totally relatable and realistic. There was plenty of drama to fill the pages but none of it was unbelievable--I felt like I was part of the Brennan family.

Lange draws the reader in from the very first page by creating intrigue behind a terrible incident. She wonderfully weaves a tale building up to the reveal of multiple family secrets.

The ending of one chapter leads into the next, sometimes bouncing between decades but always seamlessly. By alternating chapters Lange ties characters together via a simple ending/beginning line--so effective.

Highly recommend this one!

Book Rec: What Happened to the McCrays? by Tracey Lange

An emotional hat trick! Lange's ability to capture the hometown atmosphere, along with creating captivating characters, makes this an endearing novel. She has perfected pacing and tone, seemingly knowing how far to pull the reader in with each word and page written.

"No, Kyle. I could never hate you, and I’m not angry at you. {...} I just can’t be around you."

Anyone with close family and/or community ties will feel a connection with these characters and novel. Oh, and do yourself a favor & prepare a few tissues.

When twenty-nine-year-old Sunday Brennan wakes up in a Los Angeles hospital, bruised and battered after a drunk driving accident she caused, she swallows her pride and goes home to her family in New York. But it's not easy. She deserted them all—and her high school sweetheart—five years before with little explanation, and they've got questions. Sunday is determined to rebuild her life back on the east coast, even if it does mean tiptoeing around resentful brothers and an ex-fiancé. The longer she stays, however, the more she realizes they need her just as much as she needs them. When a dangerous man from her past brings her family's pub business to the brink of financial ruin, the only way to protect them is to upend all their secrets—secrets that have damaged the family for generations and will threaten everything they know about their lives. In the aftermath, the Brennan family is forced to confront painful mistakes—and ultimately find a way forward, together.

Overall a good read. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible either. The start of the book was a bit confusing because you never really got an introduction to people that were mentioned. But as things continued you did learn who they were. I figured out part of the "family secret" but not the entire thing. So when it came to that it was interesting to see how it all played out and how it was more than what I had expected and figured.

Looking forward to what else this author puts out.
