A song writer and famous singer, Tracey Chapman, is a talented and inspirational woman who began their career as soon as she could. She started off writing music and putting on shows in Boston Massachusetts until her big break in 1968 with her most popular song , “Fast Car”. Her father actually introduced her to the manager of Elektra Records and that is when her career really took off. After her first album, Chapman consistently released more songs and more albums such as “New Beginning” (1995), and her most popular song from that album being, “Give Me One Reason”.

Chapman wasn’t only just a singer and song writer though, she also worked as an activist speaking and performing on behalf of several nonprofit organizations, including the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Circle of Life (no longer active). During a 2003 event to benefit Circle of Life, Chapman performed a memorable duet with Bonnie Raitt, of the John Prine song "Angel From Montgomery."(Biography.com Editors). Along with all of these things she has accomplished, Tracey also sold about 5 million copies of her albums in the US alone, and received many Grammy awards for the first few albums- which is a dream many artists have and not many can achieve. Her music changed quite a bit as she produced more music; she first began producing songs that were more towards folk music and blues, whereas now she makes music centered to a more up-beat alternative rock music.
