Tools of the Trade: Traffic Control Devices

Projects being conducted on the road are a source of frustration for many motorists since the developments tend to affect and seize up traffic flow. Thus, those handling the projects will need to properly employ traffic control measures in order to minimize the effect they have on traffic. One such method of traffic control is through the use of traffic control devices, such as signs, cones, constructions drums, and so on.

Traffic control devices come in all shapes and sizes, each suited for particular functions. One of the most basic of these devices is the traffic sign. Capable of depicting messages, warnings, or temporary traffic regulations, these devices can direct motorists capably, and sometimes without the need for traffic personnel for additional instruction. Barricades are also an essential traffic control device for keeping cars and even pedestrians away from project areas.

Since transportation project developments will eventually complete and hinder motorists no longer, traffic control devices need to be both portable and temporary. Thus, devices such as safety cones, sandbags, concrete roadblocks, and construction drums should be quick to set up initially and easy to take away once the project finishes. Contractors should choose the right traffic control devices based on their project needs.
