The Curators Project is all-round fun for us at Shopdeca.com ; we get to explore new places and indulge in different settings to capture our curators in their elements.
One of these places we had the joy to shoot at is Trafique Coffee, Jakarta’s newer coffee joint on the scene. At Trafique you can experience great coffee, brewed to perfection by their talented baristas, while also sinking into the coffee-aroma ambience.
Trafique Coffee is the place to be for your get togethers, to conjure your creativity, and share your passions - it is your working space, too. The team at Trafique Coffee believes that great ideas spark from shared thoughts over a good cup of coffee, and we at Shopdeca.com could not agree more!
While shooting Benny Lim for our “The Curators Project”, we got the chance to have a blether with the owner, Devina. We talked about her passion for coffee and the inspiration behind Trafique Coffee, and also got the inside scoop on what’s in store for the coffee shop in the near future!
How did Trafique Coffee come about?
D: Trafique Coffee is a meeting point, between coffee and people. The team believes that every discussions will create ideas, and inserting good coffee to the equation will help to create even greater ideas! With this goal in mind, our team designed Trafique Coffee, with lots of spaces and communal tables which suits the philosophy of providing a space to meet, share their passions and of course drink good coffee.
When did you realize you wanted to start a coffee shop?
D: It has always been my family’s dream to start a coffee shop. While exploring the world of coffee, we realized that Indonesian coffee is one of the best amongst the best! So being Indonesian we thought : why not try to create a culture of drinking good quality coffee with Indonesian beans. Of course the best way to establish this culture is through a coffee platform and that’s how Trafique Coffee became the start of our coffee journey.
Why do you think some consumers are willing to spend a little extra for quality coffee experience versus the mass-market coffee shops?
D: Because we believe in the power of curiosity and the continuous desire of experiencing new things that Indonesians possess. It is true that we all have been exposed to coffee in one or another way, but we believe that people are also very excited for more and so we are very happy to serve our customer exactly that.
Any other passions?
D: Animals (three adopted dogs at home are awaiting my return everyday) and of course traveling and exploring coffee shops along the way is always on my agenda.
Hot coffee or iced?
D: Hot!! espresso is preferable but I love having manual brew and traditional methods like kopi tubruk or turkish coffee to explore the blend of flavor culture. Basically anything beside one-touch machines.
Favourite food from your café?
D: Oxtail cream soup. My family's favorite soup for almost 10 years.
What are your opinions on online shopping?
D: It is definitely growing and I really see the enthusiasm of Indonesian people for online shopping. It is also good to see how more local brands from our country's creative minds with high-quality products have more opportunities to introduce their products through the Internet and other social media platform.
Favourite clothing brand?
D: I have to say that I am not very brand-conscious when I shop, but I do love shopping and I tend to grab anything that is comfortable, good-looking, and at a reasonable price.
What are your favourite items from SHOPDECA.COM?
D: Well I spent a couple of years in Canada and I love Japanese denim, so I was pleased to find several pairs of Naked and Famous denim on Shopdeca.com. I am very excited about the local designers as well.
Anything you want to share about Trafique Coffee and future plans?
D: We are definitely planning to have more coffee shops in the near future. The market is very large and is not limited to Jakarta only so we hope to deliver high-quality coffee to more people in more areas soon.
