From tempestuous Indian Ocean traverses along steepening cliffs, to windswept and contorted coastal forests: from the baking heat of thornveldt savanna to the humid heart of rainforest trails; from palm-lined and deserted beach crossings, to the vibrant streets of tropical island villages ... these are just some of the glorious scenes which created the backdrop for the @rodriguesisland #TrailDeRodrigues #trailrun 💚🏝️💙 There were Grannies and Grandpa's, and toddlers galore. There were octogenarians. There were incredibly brave paraplegics in wheelchairs, and kids with disabilities. And literally people of all shapes and sizes. The annual Rodrigues Island Extreme trail run brought the whole of the island to a standstill, with an incredible 1400x competitors over the four distances 👏👏👏 Of course, there were thoroughbred trail runners from all over the world, mostly French-speaking nations, with a seriously competitive field. @christiaangrey (4th) and @landiegreyling (2nd) had to work hard to claim their podium spots, mostly along typical island terrain where the free kilometers are few and far between. Sandy beaches, craggy volcanic ridgelines, humid forest sections, coastal forest and slippery tree roots: these were just some of the natural obstacles faced en route...
