It's almost midnight, but I said I'd finish this today and momma didn't raise no liar.

Anyhow, one of a few fics that hella inspired me. This one is by @azurebluebell. Please give it a read! Didn't quite know what drawings I wanted to work on next after my last big one of the rival trio. Then I read this and was like OOOOOHHHH--

Aha! I figured out the "keep reading" thing.

Once again, I love designing clothes, so I wanted to take a crack at this fantasy version of the Galar gang. How I kinda imagine them. I was a bit lazy on a few of the hands, but the ones that mattered, I worked hard on, hehe. Tried some overlaying color styles. Just wanted to kind of keep the shading and such simpler for these. :3

Hop - In this fic, he's a simple farm boy who's buddies with Vic and Glo. So I thought just a sort of simple tunic type deal would work for him. Though I'm not a fan of his attire being similar colors to Marnie's, I wanted to still keep it somewhat in line with the colors he wears in canon. He's so happy here. Sweet summer child, that does not last... He eventually gets a coat similar to his canon one. I thought a longer version of it would look nifty. It's hard to restrain myself from making long flowy silhouettes. I just love 'em. See number 6 for prime example.

Gloria - She and her brother spar a lot, and I was told they have some leather armor. I tried incorporating elements of Zamazenta into some of it, while still keeping a similar red dress to her canon one. Thought it'd be fitting, as she ends up wielding the shield. :P She went through so many color variations. I struggled with her face a bit, too. Big anime eyes are tougher than I thought. I also doodled an idea for a cloak. I don't think it's mentioned in the fic, but I keep imagining her with some kind of traveling cloak.

Victor - I wanted a bit of a vertical, narrow design for Victor. It's my first time drawing him. I think I did pretty okay. :) In my eyes, he still looks enough like Vic with some of the younger features, while still looking older than canon. He and Gloria are 18 in this fic. :) Like with Gloria, I tried adding a touch of Zacian elements to the armor. It was a challenge. I kept going back and forth on a lot of colors and design options. Too much? Too little? I think this option's okay! He also gets a cloak. Again, not mentioned, but I keep imagining the twins in them...

Hahaha this scene was so badass in the fic. Marnie and Hop have an impromptu (and unwilling on Hop's part) spar and Hop pulls his knife at the last second in a panic. It's a super cool scene. I completely spazzed out for about 10 minutes after drawing the last single line that pulled Hop's left hand all together. I'm very pleased with all the hands in this pic. It was fun to also figure out the poses. Everyone say thank you to the Frieren meme. Thank you, Frieren meme. Would have really struggled without you, boo.

Marnie - In my humble lil opinion, I think I knocked Marnie out of the park, actually. I'm super jazzed about how her face turned out. It's mentioned how she never really seems to smile, and I think I got a nice intense look to her face. She's such a pretty girl with such reserved expressions. It's a challenge for me... There's a bit of pink under her flowy sleeves. :3 Was mentioned in the fic. Bless Masters EX for having models of these characters.

Fun fact, her outfit's based on an outfit that I've loved for like... 20 years, lol. Endling on Deviantart had some characters in a story of his called "Everafter." He'd done darker versions of fairy tale characters. Jack from "Jack and the Beanstalk" had the coolest outfit... I always wanted to cosplay it. Never did, so I will live vicariously though this design instead.

Bede - Beeeede. He's a mage in this story. The outfit description in the fic is kept vague, but I was told it was inspired by his Masters EX Neo Champion outfit. It's got such pretty colors, but like Marnie, I wanted some Hatterene inspiration onto it. I couldn't get over his ding dang pantaloons in that outfit, though. Those had to go, but you bet your bottom dollar he's getting some knee high boots. :D Tried making his features a little sharper and tired in these. A comment's made at some point about how he looks a tad malnourished. Big sad. :(

Oh, the challenge of trying to go with Hatterene colors while still trying to keep the white and purple included... I eventually conceded to the purple and white, but found a design that I quite like. I looooove big hats and flowy cloaks, so this was great. Also jazzed about how his hands and magic turned out. His hand poses were a struggle. I tried using my own hands for reference, but one of them's kind of injured so getting the poses I liked was haaaard. There was a brief discussion with Azure, the author, about whether there'd be any sort of Rose emblem, similar to what he has on the back of his jacket in the game. I decided to keep it off his current attire for now. :)

Another little scene from the fic. It might be tough to see, looking at it now. Ah well. At one point, Bede sort of gets mentally fried and gets a gnarly nosebleed from it. How I sort of imagined it looked at that campfire scene. I've never had any dramatic nosebleeds before, but I imagine it's a mess and a very bad time.

He gets into a bit of trouble, as well, and is made to wear these magic-cancelling manacles. And he's very unenthused. I feel like he's saying, "This is stupid, and you're stupid." Fair, fair.

It was so nice to finally get time to work on this. Life's so busy normally, but work's given me a nice little break. :)

Onto some more drawings for another couple of fics. :3

I Was Listening to the SWSH Soundtrack and OH MY GOSH ALL THE CONNECTIONS-!

Hop's battle theme having Wyndon's melody in it! Showing not just his bond to his big bro but also really emphasizing how he wants to achieve his dream to be Champion so badly in his own battle theme 🥲. Which only reminded me that we crushed that dream.... (I mean he's happier being a Professor so yay there but also ouch)

On a more wholesome note Leon's battle theme has Wyndon's melody there too, but it also has Hop's theme blended in!

However not just his battle theme, but also Champion Leon's regular theme that plays when he's on screen has Hop's theme blended in with it too! It's just in a more chill sound like Leon's regular theme is. What makes it better is that is Hop's melody of his battle theme that's all his own and not the Wyndon Melody. It's an all Hop original.

Which is super sweet because it emphasizes who Hop is to Leon and how much he means to him🥹!

They did it with Marnie and Piers' themes too with the electric guitars and Team Yell's backing cheers being their loudest connections along with their melodies blending together.

But one thing I realized that was super wholesome with their's too? In Marnie's theme, the melody that's all her own has the electric guitar not drown it out but lift it up and emphasize it like how Piers does for his little sister.

Gosh I just adore when music does things like this it's a great way of show don't tell story telling! Especially when the music is SO GOOD!

Pokémon characters as tarantulas! (very short)

Hiii everyone here’s a list I made in 2023 of Pokémon characters and tarantula species that remind me of them! A little info first: there aren’t that many characters on this list, it’s pretty much just whoever were my favorites at the time. Also, most of the choices don’t have much meaning behind them other than “yea it just kinda looks like them.” Regardless, if you’re a fellow spider AND Pokémon fan, I hope you enjoy! I might add more to this later.

⚠️ Obvious but obligatory content warning… there are going to be photos of spiders. If you’re arachnophobic, I don’t recommend looking under the cut. ⚠️

Hau - Phormicropus sp. full green

The full green coloring of this species is very rare and, of course, very beautiful. Also, that spider looks very polite. Like Hau!

Gladion - Ephebopus murinus, skeleton leg tarantula 

Chose the skeleton leg tarantula because 1) looks like it’s wearing a hoodie and 2) it’s the most emo tarantula. Also this spider looks really stupid and ugly from most angles (/affectionate), which is fitting for Gladion and his ridiculous hairstyle.

Lillie - Eupalaestrus campestratus, pink zebra beauty 

E. campestratus have a more nice temperament than many other tarantula species do. I also like that it looks a bit like E. murinus, since Lillie and Gladion are siblings it seemed fitting. 

Ilima Pseudoclamoris gigas, orange tree spider 

The colors look like his hair + they are rare and considered very beautiful. #Specialboy 

Kiawe - Homoeomma chilense, flame tarantula 

The little red spot looks like his hair and it’s called the “flame tarantula” which fits with Kiawe being a fire type trainer!

Clemont - Harpactira pulchripes, golden blue legged tarantula 

The colors match, and H. pulchripes looks like a joltik, which I know Clemont does not have but it is an electric type Pokémon, so…

Hop - Coremiocnemis hoggi, blue tarantula 

It’s pretty and super cool and special. Like Hop. And it looks like it’s wearing a jacket. Like Hop. 

Leon - Monocentropus balfouri, island blue 

Big strong arms and a very striking appearance… need I say more?

Raihan - Psalmopoeus irminia, Venezuelan suntiger 

There aren’t too many similarities here I just think that P. irminia has the dragon type coolness that Raihan obviously possesses. Plus, P. irminia is basically the awesomest and bestest tarantula ever discovered, so I find it fitting since Raihan is the awesomest and bestest gym leader. That’s just my opinion though. and my opinions are the correct ones 

Bede - Avicularia purpurea, purple pink toe

Idk. It looks like his coat and it’s shiny. I was gonna choose the curly hair as a joke but those are too nice and Avicularias are stupid (source: I have one single Avic species). Throw a golden watch on that thing and boom — it’s Bede.

Marnie - Avicularia avicularia, pink toe tarantula

Oh, look, another Avicularia! Honestly, I swear none of the photos I can find online of this species quite show how pretty they are in real life. On their paw pads, they shine an almost iridescent blue-green color, kind of like Marnie’s eyes!

Giacomo, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Typhochlaena costae, pink punk jewel tarantula 

Credit to my sister for this one. I just really wanted to include T. costae somewhere in here and she said “it looks like the music man from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet” (she doesn’t know how to pronounce his name).

N - Heteroscodra maculata, starburst baboon tarantula 

Both are scary. You guys just wouldn’t get it, but I do, and that’s what really counts.

Liko, Pokémon Horizons - Pseudhapalopus sp. Blue, blue dwarf tarantula 

It is blue. Liko is blue. Perfect match. I am a genius 

Iris - Caribena versicolor, Antilles pink toe 

I can’t explain it but this one also has a very dragon-type look. To me. I also just love its shiny metallic-ish colors.

— Ok like I said this isn’t a very long list, especially because I had to cut a couple out due to the limit on how many images I can put in one post… I may update later with more characters!

Headcanons for the Galar gym leaders as a group chat?

idr if the league is actually a seasonal thing just pretend it is

Since the Galar League was a bit different from other leagues, the group chat the major division gym leaders had was more active when there weren’t as many challengers, usually in the middle of the season.

Milo and Melony were in the chat more than most, sometimes chatting amongst themselves and sometimes working to check in with everyone else. They were both somewhat protective, after all.

With Marnie and Bede often bickering back and forth, the group chat got a lot more active once Piers and Opal turned their gyms over to the two younger gym leaders.

Gordie and Raihan, too, weren’t on the best of terms. There were usually some jabs here and there, nothing too serious- those types of conflicts were solely for battles.

Allister, Bea, Nessa, and Kabu were lurkers in the chat unless they were directly asked something. Allister especially was kind of shy to speak in the chat, despite knowing all the others.
