Trainer Spotlight: AZ
His name's actually pronounced 'Ah-Zay', but he doesn't mind if people get it wrong.
Has a nearly-perfect memory, but plays up the 'doddering, absent-minded old-timer' act, partially for Team MZ's sake but mostly because he's reluctant to bring up his past. Of course, he'll always drop some sage advice or an inspiriational anecdote when it matters.
Was already pretty tall before the Ultimate Weapon; it's just that being made immortal by that thing/Zygarde tends to make you even taller.
During his wandering, AZ had crossed paths with Volo. True to form Volo tried to befriend AZ and backstab him, but the old king saw through it; AZ tried to reach out to Volo, telling him the toll his ambitions would take, but Volo was unconvinced.
Lived VERY sparsely during his exile, believing he was undeserving of anything beyond the bare necessities.
After his redemption however, he's developed a fondness for baked treats and Roserade Tea; If he's not behind the counter at Hotel Z, you can find him either in the lobby or on the rooftop patio, relaxing with a cup of tea and a muffin, or a plate of macarons.
Occasionally roams around Lumiose City 'to stretch his legs'. While many are intimidated by just how tall he is, the ones who strike up a conversation with him always recall how unfailingly polite he is.
Even though he's experienced with tailoring (after all, not much will fit the guy without a LOT of altering), he still commissioned Naveen for his current outfit; it was more than worth it to see his eyes light up like that.
Can't say he gets the point of a lot of modern-day dances, but he never turns Lida down when she asks him to watch her newest moves.
His room in the hotel is like a very casual history museum; Everything is antique to some degree, usually from the places he's visited at around the time he visited them.
Another difference after AZ's redemption: He takes a lot more naps. While he doesn't necessarily need sleep, or at least not as much as the average person, he greatly enjoys the comfort of dozing off in his armchair while reading a favourite book of his.
Still the stoic, solemn type, which just makes the occasional joke he drops all the funnier.
Basically the final boss of 'Friendly grandpas who are still haunted by The War™'
