Please take a second to read this #Repost from @sagedynamics ・・・ Today I finished a two day vehicle defense class in New Jersey. This class was LE heavy, with officers from NYPD, NEw Jersey State Police and a few other agencies. But also present in the class were a number of citizens. Officers and citizens training together; not knowing it you wouldn't be able to really tell who was and wasn't a cop and that's what is telling. Around 11 this morning I heard about Baton Rouge and the atmosphere in the class changed. It got a little more serious; already good accuracy improved and conscious or not, drills and scenarios became more urgent. Not just the cops, but citizens as well. It's not two separate sets of skills for cops and citizens, often it's just the context. If I've learned anything in teaching mixed classes it's that there's no reason we can't see eye to eye when we are responsible and thoughtful with our behavior. It seems to me that the 2A community has better relations with law enforcement, who are members of the very same community. It's not the guns, it's not the shooting, it's a sense of self reliance and personal responsibility. It forges bonds, and it makes for a more responsible citizen and officer. I'm humbled to have men like this train with me and I'm honored to be part of a community that largely is on the same page when it comes to personal liberty. If you think that the police are there to oppress you, take a minute to get to know an officer.
