Warming Up
Warming up for an athlete is essential part for athletes not only for injury prevention, but to train at an optimal level. Warming up begins from the second you arrive at the training location. A warm up should begin with rolling out on a foam roller, should target all large muscle groups. Athletes that train at high levels are going to be sore, and this is a great way to get some blood flowing and work out some pain. After rolling out the athlete should go through dynamic stretches to prepare to be active. Then depending on the workout (speed, strength, sport specific, etc), A warm up should be specific to that workout. A strength warm up should include muscle activation of the muscles being trained. Speed training should include some type of speed progression, working from a march, to skips, to runs. Sport specific training warm ups should include drills that prepare athletes for more advanced drills that will occur later in training. As an athlete you should feel completely loose and ready to perform at your highest ability once your warm up is complete.
