Three generated traits for a character - must include all of the traits, no picking which to write. Generated via the same gen I used for the Dialogue prompt.
The day starts like normal. The automatic fair trade coffee, beeping from the kitchen. Loving, but hurried, huffs from the large spotted dog at the bedroom door. A loud groan from the bed, muttering about mornings and what they can do. At most a threat or a saying such as “Mornings can fuck off”, which is the nicest of the usual sayings. The person in the bed sits up, running a hand through their shocking pink hair. They laugh as the large dog bounds toward them, wagging their tail and whining.
“Alright, alright. I’m up. Between you and my alarm clock, I get no sleep. You know that?” they say to the dog, who sits down, continuing to wag its tail. A chuckle, and the person reaches to the dog, who bumps its head into the owner’s hand. “Let’s go, then.”
The human and its companion walk to the bedroom door. They walk down the empty hallway in silence, the dog’s tail still wagging. They turn left and the pink haired human goes to open the door to the backyard. Leaving it open, they then shuffle to the coffee, running a hand through their hair once more. They mentally went over the day’s activities. This includes visiting at least three local pawn shops, and meeting some shady dealer in an alley (an alley? How typical). Today also includes a job, post dealing.
After feeding the dog, and taking a quick shower, they towel dry their pink hair in front of the steamed mirrors. With a swipe of a towel, they were ready to start getting ready. A hand grips a brass drawer knob and, with a rough yank, makeup appears. They make eye contact with the mirror’s reflection, eyeing their body and frowning. A somewhat satisfactory nod, and they begin to choose the right makeup for today’s occasions.
Thirty minutes later, they are on the way to the first of three pawn shops. This first one, owned by a friend of a friend’s girlfriend’s brother, was quite dingy. They enter the shop in haste. An overwhelming smell of dust and leather creeps into their nose. The shop was dim, but this would be a good place to make some deals.
“Welcome! What are you in for today?” a quite timid, yet happy, voice from behind the glass counters asks.
“Hi, yes. Is Freddie in?” they walk up to the glass counter, laying a ring covered hand on the top. A dark smile, and the girl’s confidence retreats.
“Oh, uhm. Let me… Let me go see.” She says, pointing a thumb to the curtain that covers the backroom of the shop. She doesn’t wait for confirmation and almost runs from the tall, pink-haired stranger. A chuckle follows her.
“Luka, is that you?” a new voice asks, looking at the only person in the shop.
“Hello, Freddie.” They tilt their chin up in a salutation of a sort, sliding their left hand into their pants pocket.
“You’re not supposed to be here! What if they find out?”
“Don’t tell them, and we won’t have a problem.” A smirk plays in their lips. “I’ll be short. I’m here to buy.”
“Really?” Freddie did not believe them, whatsoever. A nod and a noise of agreement. “Fine, show me what you want. Be quick, though!”
Luka walks around the showroom, pointing to several items, and asking about the history. If it didn’t have an interesting history, it would be of no use to them. At the end of it all, Luka paid out for four items in total. An heirloom opal necklace, a rusted dagger from the year 1715 (rumored to be a pirate dagger, which could work to their advantage), and two vintage movie posters.
“Alright, and this will go in the books under Lu-”
“No, not Luka.” Luka cut across Freddie’s words. “If he sees my preferred name there, then I’m done for. William.”
“Really?”
“Would you prefer explaining why a pale woman named Alexa came in to buy these items or a strapping, yet still pale, man named William?”
“Fine.” Freddie turns back to the girl. “Put down William for the name on the receipts.” She nods.
“How many names do you have?” she asks, wrapping the items in paper as Freddie disappears into the back. She places them in a bag, waiting for an answer.
Luka just gives her a smile like the one they’d given her when they walked in. They grabbed up the items to continue on their errands, the bell on the door still ringing as they drove off.
Two pawn shops later and Luka found themselves walking down the main street of the local shops near their house. It was like a village center of home businesses and family owned restaurants. Why on earth would the dealer even choose this place? Luka keeps a scowl on their face as they light a cigarette. An old woman watches in disgust and begins to walk toward the pink-haired smoker.
“Excuse me, young man?”
Luka smirks and takes a hard pull on the cigarette. They situate their loose-collar shirt, holding the cigarette in their lips. “Yes?” A tug on their blue arm sleeve, finally making eye contact with the woman.
“You do know smoking is bad for you, right?”
“So is assuming I’m a man.” Luka responds in a light voice before walking off with a hard chuckle. They pause and turn to the woman, who was staring in disbelief and shock. “Lady, we all die. Death is closer to you than it is to me, so I’ll be seeing you.” With a nod and a false hat cock (considering no hat lay upon Luka’s head), Luka turns once more.
“I’ll have you know that I’ll be going to heaven!” the woman shouts to Luka’s back in a high voice.
“Sure you will.” Luka responds once more, blowing smoke into the air with a hard grin. A sigh escapes their lips as they continue down the sidewalk. Maybe they should’ve chosen the typical skirt and pant combination today. Loose, wavy hair and blush, instead of shadowing and flipped hair.
“Alexa, c’mere.”
A second sigh. “It’s Luka, John.” They respond with a dark glance, looking to a human-shaped shadow.
“I don’t care.” John steps away from the shadow. They cower under the cool gaze of Luka. “Your job’s compromised.” Luka scoffs. “I’m not kidding you. It’s called off.”
“What happened?”
“Client backed out last minute. Said they need more time to think about the requirements they asked for at the beginning. Seems they didn’t trust one of the best liars in the area.” John smirks.
“Do they prefer truth tellers?” Luka crushed their spent cigarette into the cement.
“Yes.”
“Alright.”
“Alright? You aren’t pissed?”
“No, I’m pissed. I can’t do anything about it though, so fuck it. My dealer is going to get shit prices because my mood went south, but I can’t go after the client.” Luka says with a casual shrug. John looks at Luka with apprehension.
“Well, if anything, you’ll get a call later detailing a new job.”
“Of course I will. Your business would be nothing without me.”
“Don’t be so confident. We can replace you.”
“No, you can’t, John.” Luka replies, scratching their chin. “Have a nice day.”
“Don’t be so nice, either. It’s off-putting.” John says in parting. Luka laughs, throwing their head back.
Luka keeps walking, avoiding stares and whispers with expertise. A driveway looms ahead and they know that’s the alley the dealer meant. Luka peeks around the corner and, seeing nothing, slips into the darkness of the brick surrounding. The temperature was much cooler, which Luka preferred.
“No names, just deals.” Luka says as they near the modest woman, waiting next to a large dumpster.
“You know what I have?”
“As long as you have cash, I don’t really care what you have.” Luka replies. The woman frowns, but nods. “I consider myself rather fair, and if you refuse my offer, fine. But if you call and say I lowballed you, that’s another issue entirely. Got it?” she nods again. “Great. Now, let’s talk it out.”
