have you seen the “ochaco is the traitor” thread on twitter? thoughts?
I haven’t seen “the twitter thread”, but I’ve seen the Uraraka is the traitor thing before - usually the biggest “ incriminating evidence” is that she’s the only one who openly admitted getting into hero school for the money.
I don’t really believe this theory and even though Uraraka is far from my favourite character and I find the IzuOcha romance somewhat annoying, I wouldn’t like this to be true at all.
I think that this feeds a harmful stereotype about money-hungry poor people. I happen to come from a family that wasn’t well-off when I was growing up, and I understand this need of trying to find a profession where you can earn enough money so you don’t depend on your parents anymore. It is a factor in the career choice.
It doesn’t make someone a bad person to have their goal to be self-sufficient. Why is it any worse than wanting to be manly or put people at ease or be the strongest or be as cool as your childhood idol?
Even if Ochako's main goal was originally to have stability as a grown-up, it doesn’t mean that she would corrupt herself for money or she’s morally weaker than the others. Just like Bakugou wanting to be the strongest didn’t make him accept the offer of the LoV. You can want money and be a person of strong ethics. It’s not like her aim is to be a millionaire, she just wants to have a decent life and be paid what she’s worth.
I think that shouldn’t be stigmatized.
She can still be an excellent, selfless hero and I do think her character is genuine in her ambition of heroism.
