continuing my intermittent nightrunner yapping and sharing some of my favorite bits from Traitor's Moon:

ok I already made a post about this one but. the author's note is truly my favorite. ms flewelling you are so funny. I think we would get along swimmingly.

Seregil singing the exile's lament early on in their time in Aurënen. heartbreaking and poignant. I am in tears

okayokayokay. so. I love "lied" as a dialogue tag. you can do so much with so little. the absolute word economy on it. unrivaled. having established that. honestly lowkey obsessed with this line from right after Alec encounters Emiel í Morianthi:

what an absolute gut punch of a line. 10/10 no notes.

in a callback to one of my favorites from stalking darkness, one of Beka's captains tells Alec that of all the soldiers of her company he 'blessed' before they went off to war, all but one has made it through two years of war alive. very sweet

alright these are all so serious except the author's note. one lighthearted one. toward the end, Thero undoes the dye in Alec's hair from Alec having been disguised, and Seregil says something about preferring blond men. and Thero (not blond) (doesn't like him) goes. I know this and I am grateful

I would say this book has romance in it, but is primarily a political intrigue fantasy. I say this is a positive!!! I don't mind a romantasy, but I tend to find them focusing more on the romance than the fantasy, this has both without one getting lost in the background details! Alec and Seregil will steal your hearts and probably any juicy gossip you have lying around!"

The school year is starting and I'm about to spend a lot more time in classrooms and waiting around at competitions and practices and so on, so it's time for a new emotional support totebag book. Fortunately, this one is an old library copy with a laminated cover, so it might actually survive the experience intact.

And it fits in my pocket ❤️❤️❤️
