trick or treat!!! this is a lil snippet from "not just girls" that got cut but still makes me chuckle:

"Girls," a loud voice says, caught up in a probable amount of liquor, "are wonderful." Jesper's words are starting to slur together a little bit. Winnie forces herself to swallow her laughter. Petulant fingers prod her stomach anyway, till she rests her head on his shoulder with a smile. Jesper carries on.  "You need—" He hiccups "— to treat her right, Helvar. Or else she's going to find another girl and— and…" "Start a bisexual commune?" Winnie offers. Jesper snaps his fingers, then points at Matthias. "Exactly." Winnie giggles. Matthias doesn't seem nearly as entertained.

I mean I get why someone could be offended by you dead naming Wylan, but at the same time, this is a fic about a fictional character in an alternate universe where he hasn't figured out he's trans. You're either gonna have to use a different name or just find ways around it. It's just a name you've made up so it's not like you're hurting anyone.

As a fellow trans person I suppose I understand where that person is coming from, but also, I don't think it's disrespectful at all. It's all made up. And as long as on the fic you put that there's unintentional dead naming and the like, then I think you're fine.

I'm just gonna throw this out there as an alternative suggestion which is: I don't think I am dead-naming him within the context of the fic. Until a certain point in the fic the name he uses and wants to use is "winnie", and at the point he realises 1) he's trans and 2) he does not like the name Winnie, the narration does not call him that.

I'm not going to tell anyone that they're wrong for feeling discomfort about this, and will tag/warn for this fic from now on, but there is also a distinction to be made between discomfort and harm, and malicious intent and artistic depiction of a real world situation that I have experience of

As a trans person who has suffered lots of disphoria I find your Winnie fic very insulting... Dead naming a character is vile, and although I understand your line of thoughts, I still find it harmful for people like me or other trans folks

writing this as a trans author I disagree that it is by necessity harmful to all trans readers but will be sure to tag any future mentions of this fic with "trans egg Wylan" so anyone that wants to avoid it can block it. i'll also acknowledge that previous mentions could have been better tagged/warned for, which is on me and will be amended

apparently all i want to think about atm is trans egg wylan so here you go 😂

Softly, she asks, "Just girls?"  Jesper chuckles, prodding her in the stomach again. "Just you." She squirms, turning till she can look up and meet Jesper’s eye. When she smiles, she’s not sure it reaches her eyes. "That doesn't answer my question."  In response she gets an over-the-top sigh and a wry grin, but knows Jesper is only teasing. He wraps his arm a little tighter around her, tugging her close to himself. "Not just girls,” he murmurs, lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “I’ve liked all sorts before you. A lot of them were girls. Some of them weren't."  Winnie smiles. She holds onto his arm where it’s wrapped around her waist, feeling comfortable. Not just girls. That’s… something.

i'm working on a new trans wylan fic and will leave this summary without comment bc i think it's more interesting that way 👀👀

It is early summer, and Winifred Martine Marya Van Eck cuts her hair. 

The summer swells, and Winnie Van Eck learns some things. She learns that she likes how she looks with short hair, likes it when her boyfriend calls her good, and maybe - maybe - likes the thought of being someone new.
