Because of the time period, she keeps it a secret and hides it from her dad from the longest time
And when he does find out, he ain’t too happy
He tries to force her to dress like a boy and act like a man and uses her dead name, but Katherine, being Katherine, fights back
Of course, she feels like an outsider because no one else she knows is like her
She feels uncomfortable in her body and even hates it at times
She knows she can’t go to her dad, so she just kinda keeps everything to herself
BUT- you know who fully support her? Bill and Darcy
Those two are 100% supportive of her and try to make her feel better when she’s feeling uncomfortable in her body
They treat her like a little sister and use her preferred pronouns
So, Katherine grows her hair out and Bill and Darcy buy her dresses and skirts because she knows her dad isn’t gonna but her anything
She chose the name Katherine because she saw it in a book once and thought it was a beautiful name
Since Pulitzer is like a big name in the newspaper industry, people know Pulitzer has a kid, so she uses the name “Plumber” so people won’t know who she is
So... that’s why she uses the name Katherine Plumber. So people won’t know who she is
When she meets the Newsies and doesn’t tell them she’s trans because she’s scared of what they’ll say
Eventually, she finds out that a few of the Newsies are like her and she feels better about herself because now she knows she’s not the only one who feels the way she does
The Newsies, even the ones that aren’t trans, are very supportive sand love Katherine for who she is
