So, I think I'm going to publish some stories that I know I don't actively work on.
So, Billion Dollar Kids (which is my weird twist on Billion Dollar Freshmen, aka the original lab rats; it's got trans Chase and trans Bree and all sorts of that shit), I have a Trans Spin fic somewhere, I'm sure I have an mm fic too, etc.
Would you guys be okay with that? Like, would you like to see that? Please give a real response, bc I'm an insecure fuck lmao
I headcannon Spin as trans so bad! Like, he's young enough that even without puberty blockers, you wouldnt be able to tell that he's AFAB, and it's not like he's familiar enough with social stupidity that he'd think he was a girl just cuz of his body.
These are the designs I did for Jaime on picrew. The last one is the latest one. So if someone maybe wanted to draw them /hj
Anyway, I wanted to try and capture how they wear their scars proudly, but I also wanted them to have like... a tech-y sort of vibe. So the last one is my best attempt at that.

I hope you guys don't mind me having an oc in this story, but if you do, I can try to avoid featuring them heavily.
Spin spent the next few days training exclusively with Leo, Bree or Chase. It was nice, having these people who supported him.
Chase told him that he was trans too. Spin tried to argue this, as he’d seen Chase shirtless before. Chase explained that he came out so early that he was able to get on puberty blockers and then T, so he went through an average male puberty.
Spin envied that. It was too late for him.
Part of Spin was happy for Chase, because he didn’t have to go through what Spin was going through. But that didn’t mean he was okay with going through it either.
It was still nice to know that Spin wasn’t alone.
He wondered if Bree knew that her brother was trans, as she’d mentioned earlier not knowing many trans people. Was Chase one of the few she knew, or was she not even including him because he had a mostly masculine childhood.
After a week, Spin was cleared to bind and train again.
He took a single, tiny dose pain reliever before training. Just in case. His ribs were still a bit tender. He’d stop in a couple of days, it was temporary.
When he arrived in class, he noticed something. Jaime.
The colour on their shoulders was green now.
Are you… fucking kidding…
“Did you seriously get fucking credit for fighting me while I was injured?” Spin asked, shoving the blonde back.
“What? No, I—”
“You’re wearing a colour up,” He said, shoving Jaime’s shoulder where the colour started.
“That’s because I—”
“You didn’t beat me because you’re skilled, you beat me because I was already hurt!”
“Spin!” Jaime practically yelled. “I fought someone else to get green,” They said. “Even if they’d offered me green for ‘beating,’ you, I wouldn’t have taken it. I want it fairly.”
“Oh,” Spin said quietly. He backed up. “Sorry,” He admitted.
“It’s okay,” Jaime said with a small laugh. “Are you okay, by the way? I know I was tough on you, you seemed really hurt.”
“Yeah,” Spin said, “I’m feeling better now,” he said, running his hand over the side of his ribcage. It was true. He was feeling better now.
“Good,” Jaime said, crossing their arms, “Wouldn’t want to kick your ass while you’re hurt, now would I,” They said with a small laugh.
“You wish,” Spin retorted.
“Hey, I’m serious. I don’t want to injure a fellow classmate just because they’re already injured. I’d rather leave a few bruises than break a few bones,” Jaime said. Spin shook his head realising that Jaime definitely didn’t get the point of that quip, but let it go.
“So, who’d you fight to get it?” He asked, changing the subject.
“Thomas,” Jaime said, admittedly smug. Spin’s eyes widened in shock.
Jaime and Spin were among the shorter students. In fact, Jaime was a year older than Spin and was only 2 inches taller. Thomas on the other hand was 5’10, about 10 inches taller than Jaime, and a full foot taller than Spin.
“Seriously? Dude, that is so cool!” He exclaimed. Jaime shrugged.
“Yeah,” They said, not even trying to be humble about it. “I honestly don’t know why I was ever put in yellow. I think it’s just because we’re young, y’know?”
“Yeah,” Spin agreed, although he did feel guilty when he was automatically bumped up by Mr Davenport when he showed off. It felt… icky. Sure, it was a nice feeling to one-up Leo, but sometimes it felt like Mr Davenport pitied him.
It was like he was ranking him not as a bionic hero, but as a child. He was better than your average child, so that’s what made him good.
“I mean, you probably should’ve been in green to begin with; you’ve always had really good control of your powers.”
“I mean, I only really have the one,” Spin admitted. “So it’s not like I have to practise with multiple powers to master all of them. I can only practise with one, so I get the most practice with one.”
“Hey, you know we get more bionics as we grow up,” Jaime said, poking Spin in the arm. Spin looked at Jaime, confused. “You did know that, right?”
“No,” Spin said, confused.
“Yeah, dude. Like, Before I only had super speed. But now I have plasma spheres too,” Jaime said excitedly. “I think I might also have superstrength, but I haven’t talked to anyone about it,” They said quieter.
“I thought you always had plasma spheres. I don’t remember seeing you without them,” Spin said, still confused. Jaime laughed nervously.
“Right,” They said. “I probably was just bumped back down to yellow since I got new powers that I needed to master.”
Jaime themselves sounded unsure about the excuse they’d generated.
Spin raised a brow but didn’t get a chance to interrogate them, as the class started.
As Spin thought back, he realised that he really hadn’t seen Jaime when he first went there. He only really saw them pop up after… hm. Oh, after he and Bob helped the police catch those robbers.
Only then did he see them around. He figured he’d remember hair that obnoxiously bright blonde and the oddly confident stature.
But at the same time, Jaime had numerous scars that they wore happily on display that could’ve only formed if they were there the whole time; if they were part of the bionic army from the beginning— if they had been going to the academy the whole time.
Various half-healed cuts, gashes and burns, and a single frozen scar on their left bicep. There’s no way they’d only been there for the few months between now and visiting the mainland for the first time.
And to Spin, that just begged the question… where the fuck did this person come from?

Gettin some Leo-Spin sibling-like dynamic shit here
(That was the intention, idk how well I delivered on that)
After Leo saved them from quicksand and brought them back to the academy, Spin went straight to Bree.
“Spin! What happened to you?” She asked.
“Quicksand,” Leo said.
“Yeah, uh… Can I take the rest of the day off after we send our stuff to the laundry?” Spin asked.
“Oh, sure, Spin,” Bree said. “Uh, you wouldn’t get these clothes back until tomorrow evening,” She said.
“Oh,” He said quietly. “Can I take tomorrow off too?” He asked quietly.
“Seriously, dude?” Leo asked. “It’s just an outfit,” He said. Spin looked down at himself.
“Of course you can, Spin,” Bree said with a smile. “And you can stay in our room, if you want.”
“Yeah, that’d be great,” Spin said sadly, walking off. Leo walked with him.
“Dude, what’s the big deal? Why do you need the day off just to get your clothes back?” Leo asked. Spin tensed. “And why is Bree giving you special treatment? You two can’t possibly be that close!”
“Leo, leave it alone,” Spin said. “We aren’t even friends, so stop asking this sort of thing,” He said. “I gotta get changed and showered, don’t follow me,” He said.
“Why would I follow you,” Leo muttered, walking off.
After Spin showered and changed into his oversized uniform, he headed straight for the mentor’s dorm.
Where Leo apparently was.
“Leo!” Spin exclaimed, crossing his arms. “What are you doing here?”
“I live here,” He said pointedly. “These are my siblings, and I don’t sleep in a capsule, and Big D didn’t give me a bed,” Leo said. “Why are you here?”
“Bree’s letting me stay here until tomorrow,” He said. He sat down in a chair and put his knees to his chest.
“Again. Why?”
“Stop asking me that stuff!” Spin exclaimed.
“Isn’t it gonna be bad for you to not sleep in a capsule?” Leo asked, honestly sounding concerned.
“Worth it,” Spin muttered. “It’s just a night, I’ll be fine,” He said.
“So, just gonna sleep in that chair?”
“I guess,” Spin said, repositioning to rest his head on the back.
“That can’t be good for your back,” Leo said.
“It’s just a night,” Spin said again.
The three mentors entered the room through the elevator.
“Oh, hey, Spin,” Adam said. “What are you doing here?”
“I invited him,” Bree said. “He’s just gonna stay in here until tomorrow.”
“Why? He has classes to attend,” Chase said.
“My uniform isn’t clean,” Spin said. “It got dirty when I got stuck in the quicksand.”
“Which I saved him from!” Leo bragged.
“You’re wearing a uniform right now,” Chase said.
“Chase,” Bree said. “He’s staying here. It’s a personal thing,” She said.
“Bree,” Leo said, standing up and putting his hand on Bree’s shoulder. “I know Spin is… a guy, and that’s pretty much your type, but he is way too young for you,” Leo said, getting Spin’s repulsed attention.
“No,” Bree said. “Gross,” She said. “Dude’s like my brother,” She said. Spin smiled at the label. “Also, gross,” She said. “No offence.”
“None taken,” Spin said, waving his hand. “I can leave if it bothers you guys,” Spin said, his voice cracking.
“It’s okay,” Adam said.
“You’re supposed to sleep in a capsule,” Chase said. Bree put her hand on Chase’s shoulder.
“Chase, leave it alone. It’s just a night,” She said. Chase sighed, knowing there was probably no arguing with his sister.
“Alright,” Chase said. “We should get to bed though,” He said, “Night guys,” He said, going into his capsule.
“Yeah, sleep goodly,” Adam said, going into his capsule too. Bree ruffled Spin’s hair again.
“Good night, Spinster,” She said. “Don’t think too much, ‘kay?” She said. Spin nodded. “Night, Leo,” She said before speeding away into her capsule.
“Night, Spin,” Leo said.
“Goodnight,” Spin mumbled.
Leo and the others fell asleep pretty fast. Not like Spin. Spin couldn’t sleep. He hugged his knees close to his chest.
He didn’t usually sleep with his binder, no, he wasn’t allowed to. But it still hurt knowing that he wasn’t able to wear it the next day. And he’d grown a bit, even with the oversized shirt, you could notice if you looked closely.
And he did. Too much. To the point where tears fell from his eyes. A few quiet whimpers escaped before he noticed Leo shifting on the couch. He moved from the chair in the main area to a lawn chair near the pool. He’d be further from them. He could cry the way he needed to.
And while he was still quiet, Leo woke up. Probably naturally. He noticed immediately that Spin wasn’t there.
“Spin?” Leo asked, at full volume, knowing that the capsules were sound proof. Spin shut himself up after that, thinking that if he were quiet, Leo wouldn’t notice him.
Spin was wrong. Leo actually got up to look for him, and noticed him immediately.
“Oh my god, Spin, are you okay?” He asked, walking quickly over to him.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Spin said, whipping his eyes and putting on a good fake smile. He’d gotten used to having to do that.
“No, you’re not,” He said. Spin looked at him, confused. “You’re basically crying.”
“Whatever,” Spin said. “Doesn’t matter,” He said. “I’ll get over it.”
“No, seriously,” Leo said, scooting closer to Spin. “What’s wrong? Why were you crying? Did you get any sleep” He asked.
“No, and… I’m… not ready to tell anyone,” He said quietly.
“Well, you don’t have to tell me,” Leo said. “But if you do, I won’t judge you.” Spin took a breath. And then another. Another.
“Okay,” He said. “You know how me and Bree have been getting closer?” He asked.
“Wait, was I right, were you guys dating? Aren't you like 10?” Leo asked. Spin gagged.
“Gross, man. And I’m 13,” He said.
“You’re only 2 years younger than me?” Leo asked incredulously, “Now, that cannot be right.”
“Yeah,” Spin spat. “It… started a few months ago.”
“I know,” Leo said, “When you were stabbed,” He joked.
“Yeah,” Spin said. “About that,” He said. “I obviously wasn’t actually stabbed. They were menstrual cramps,” He dreaded.
“Menstrual cramps? Isn’t that a period thing?” Leo asked, not catching on. Spin sighed.
“Yeah,” He said. “And then last month, she got me a binder,” He said. “Which is why I’m here. It got dirty in the quicksand.”
“What’s a binder?” Leo asked. Spin sighed, a couple tears escaping his eyes. He pulled his shirt back so that it was tighter around his torso.
“It makes this not something you can see,” He said, motioning to his chest.
“Oh,” Leo said. Spin let his shirt go, and curving his back so that it looked baggier on him.
“There, now you know my big secret,” Spin said. “I was born in the wrong body and I wanna die because of it,” He said, scaring Leo.
“What?” He asked, a bit sternly. It reminded Spin of when he’d joke about it to Bree.
“I’m exaggerating,” Spin said, “Mostly,” He mumbled. “Anyway, that's why I’m staying here,” He said. ”So other people don’t learn about my big secret,” he said. Leo hugged him from the side.
“Sorry,” He said. “I didn’t know.”
“It’s okay.”
“Does anyone else know?” Leo asked.
“Just Bree,” He said. “She’s been helping me with everything. About being a girl,” He said, mumbling the last word.
“You’re not a girl,” Leo said. “Just trapped in his stupid body.”
“Agreed,” Spin said. “Stupid body,” He said, leaning into Leo. “I hate my body,” He said quietly.
“Uh,” Leo said. “I really don’t know what to say. Because on the one hand, I hate that you don’t like your body. And on the other hand, I don’t want to tell you that I hate your body.” Spin let out a light laugh.
“Thanks, I guess,” He said.
“I, uh…” Leo cleared his throat. “I heard that sweatshirts can help with dysphoria,” He said.
“Yeah, Bree read that too,” Spin said. “But they don’t have sweatshirt versions of the uniforms,” He said. “She said she’d talk to Douglas about it.”
“Right,” Leo said. “But in the meantime, you could… have one of mine,” He said. Spin pulled away slightly.
“Really?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Leo said. “I mean, I have extras. And my mom could always send some over too,” He said. “If it helps.”
“That’d be great,” Spin said with a weak smile. But this one was genuine.
“Then I’ll go grab one,” Leo said, getting up and walking over to the one dresser in the room. He grabbed a soft, dark blue one that said ‘Don’t mess with me, I’m bionic.’
He returned to the chair with Spin.
“My mom gave this to me,” Leo said. “After Uncle Douglas told my mom I had a bionic arm.”
“I can’t take this one, man, your mom gave it to you,” He said.
“You don’t have to take take it. You can just borrow it,” Leo said. “At least for the day,” He said. Spin sighed, though with a smile, and took it.
“Thanks, Leo,” He said before slipping it on. Leo smiled.
“Of course, Mini-Man,” He said. Spin shifted. “Wait, is it okay for me to call you that?” He asked. “Doesn’t make you uncomfortable, does it?”

I really want to post a bunch more chapters tonight, but I'm getting tired and idk how far I'm gonna get with that, but let's see!
After that, Spin adjusted. He got used to having a period once a month (along with the dysphoria and pain that came with it), and he got used to having Bree as a confidant. She taught him more things, about hormones and emotions and what to expect as he grew.
Which started sooner than he would’ve hoped.
He didn’t even appreciate how flat his chest was until it stopped. It was barely anything, and yet he found himself staring at other guys in the academy, thinking ‘I wish my chest was as flat as theirs.’
Eventually, he went to Bree about it.
“Hey, Bree,” He said quietly.
“Yeah, Spin?” She said, walking away from her little group of students she was working with.
“Uh, so I think that thing you were talking about is starting,” He said quietly, motioning to his chest.
“Oh,” Bree said. “Okay, well, luckily, I’ve researched this, and I know how to help, at least for a bit before things get worse,” She said. “Go to Chase and ask for a uniform shirt a size up, okay? It’ll help, at least for now before we can get you a binder,” She said. Spin opened his mouth to ask something, but Bree answered before he did. “It’ll make your chest flatter,” She whispered. Spin nodded.
Spin walked into the other room, where Chase was talking to Leo about something, he didn’t know what.
“Uh…” Spin started, not getting either of their attention. “Chase?” He said nervously.
“Oh, hey, Spin, what’s up?” He asked, looking down at him.
“Can I get a uniform shirt, a size up, please?” He asked politely, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Why, this one seems to fit you fine?” Chase said, looking at Spin.
“If you’re trying to prepare for when you grow, I think you’re fine with what you got,” Leo said with a laugh. Spin tried to speak, but his words got stuck in his throat. Bree must've noticed from the other room, because she entered to talk to Chase.
"Just get him a size up," She said, her voice annoyed and vaguely threatening. Chase sighed.
"Okay, fine," He said before walking off.
"Thanks, Bree," Spin got out. Bree ruffled his hair, making him laugh a bit.
"No problem, Spinster," She said. "Let me know if you need anything else," She said before walking off.
"Since when did you guys get close?" Leo asked, sounding slightly annoyed.
"A few months ago," Spin said. "Remember when I was stabbed," He said with a laugh.
"Right," Leo said. He crossed his arms like Spin's. "So, trying to steal my family then?" Spin started to undress his arms before remembering why he crossed them.
"What?" He asked.
"First Big D, now my sister?" Leo said, "What's next, Adam or Chase?" He asked.
"Neither," Spin said bitterly. "Bree's my friend," He said, annoyed.
"Why? You guys have nothing in common!" He said. 'More in common than you think,' Spin thought.
"It's none of your business, Leo!" Spin exclaimed. He would've stormed off, if it weren't for the fact that he was waiting on his shirt.
"Oh my god," He said. "Do you like Bree?" He asked, suddenly sounding angry for a different reason, but Spin didn't know what reason that would be.
"What? Gross, no!" Spin exclaimed. "Not like that," He added. "She's like my big sister," He said, not thinking about Leo's first reason for being mad.
"I knew it," He growled. "You are stealing my family!"
"I'm not stealing your family!" Spin exclaimed.
"Then why hang out with them, instead of other people?"
"You wouldn't understand!" Spin exclaimed. "I know you probably have some deep seeded abandonment issues because of your biological dad, but that doesn't mean your new family is gonna want to leave you for some 13 year old white boy," He said, his voice not as angry as before. Leo looked stunned.
"Uh," Was all he managed to get out.
"Here, Spin," Chase said, hanging him a shirt. "Enjoy," He said before turning back to Leo.
Spin walked off to go change as Chase started ranting to Leo about something again, but Leo wasn't paying attention. He was so stunned Spin would say something like that.
Later that week, Leo saw Bree give Spin a bag with something in it, which resulted in Spin giving Bree a hug, pulling her down so he could thank her quietly, tears coming from his eyes, and Leo thought that he was right, he really didn't understand.
"Thank you so much, Bree," He said, tears coming from his eyes. "For everything you've been doing for me," He said.
"Oh," Bree said, surprised, "Of course, Spin," She said, hugging him back. They pulled away. "I put instructions on how often and how long you're allowed to use it, and I got ones of a few different sizes, starting with the one you're at," She said. "Just in case we can start puberty blockers before uh… they get bigger," she said quietly
"They're gonna get bigger?" Spin asked, annoyed, shocked, and terrified.
"Wow, I mean, I knew you grew up sheltered, but damn," She said. "Uh, yeah. I can lend you a book if you want."
"Yeah, that'd probably be good," Spin said with a sigh.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Leo asked from the other room.
"Leo!" Bree said, shocked.
"Were you eavesdropping?" Spin asked, covering his chest with the bag, much more self conscious around someone he was closeted to.
"What? No! I just heard those last couple sentences," Leo said. "Seriously though, what were you talking about?" He asked.
"None of your business!" Spin yelled, annoyed. "I'm gonna go get changed,” he told Bree. He pointed at Leo. "Tell him nothing," He whispered. Bree nodded as Spin walked off.
"You're keeping secrets from me?" Leo asked, genuinely bothered.
"It's nothing," Bree said. "And it's not even my secret to tell, so it doesn't matter." She said.
"Why are you even friends with him?" He asked. Bree sighed.
"Leo, don't… just, stop being so hard on him, okay? You don't know how hard he has it," She said. "And you're not making it easier for him,” She said before walking off.
In the bathroom, Spin was staring at himself in the mirror, turned to the side. He smiled, seeing how his chest was flatter now. He still put on the bigger uniform shirt, and that seemed as good as it was gonna get.
He stopped when Leo entered the bathroom he was in.
“H-Hey, Leo,” Spin said nervously. “Sorry about, uh, yelling... that at you,” He said.
“It’s fine,” Leo said, although he was clearly annoyed. “You look like you’re shrinking when you wear that shirt,” He said. Spin laughed.
“Great, that’s exactly what I’m going for,” He said genuinely, patting Leo’s arm before leaving the bathroom.

This may be emotional for you if you're trans; just a warning. Like, I'm pretty sure I wrote this when I was feeling particularly masc and dysphoric.
After leaving the bionic army, Spin learned more about things that were considered feminine and masculine.
Dancing? Feminine.
Sports? Masculine.
Long hair? Feminine.
Short hair? Masculine.
He caught on pretty fast. And the stereotypes didn’t stop with hobbies and style, it also applied to other things. Bodies.
To anyone else, they’d consider Spin’s body to be feminine. He was little and pathetic and just a little curvier than other guys. That and the fact that he was, what was the term? AFAB.
It made him feel awful. The first time he went out into the real world, he was asked ‘Oh my goodness, are you lost little girl?’ and his world shattered.
But everyone else in the bionic academy knew he was a boy. He said he was a boy, and that’s all they need. Plus, it’s not like they’d seen his body, and even if they did, he was so young that he hadn’t started developing yet.
So he usually didn’t have to deal with it.
Until Leo Dooley.
Stupid Dooley’s first comment about the one thing that Spin was happy with (his bionic abilities) was that he twirled, like a ballerina, like a girl.
He didn’t let it show, but that hurt him to the core, even though he knew it shouldn’t have.
After that, the only reason he used his spinning ability was to show up Leo. The only reason he spun was to make Leo upset. It didn’t matter that once he started spinning, he also started crying. Because the tears would fly off and once he was done spinning, no one was the wiser.
After a while, he ignored it. He ignored his body, he didn’t shower, he almost never got changed and he always found a way to get out of any physicals that they were holding.
But he couldn’t really ignore his body anymore when he woke up from excruciating pain in his lower stomach. Later, when he used the restroom, he found blood in his underwear. He didn’t know what was happening, but it was strange and concerning.
He used some toilet paper to clean up the blood as well as he could and went on his way, trying to ignore it as much as he could. During training though, it was hard. Because it hurt his stomach too much to stand. He’d sit in the corner with his knees pressed to his chest because he figured out it was the least painful way to sit.
He was mostly unnoticed, as he was short. But someone noticed. Leo Dooley. Stupid Dooley.
“Where’s Spin?” He asked Bree. “Did he give up on training til he hits puberty?” He asked with a laugh. Spin didn’t know what puberty was. Bree pointed to Spin, who was still sitting against the wall, hugging his knees. “What’s wrong with him?”
“I dunno. He’s been sitting there since we started training, I didn’t think to ask.”
Leo walked over to him, followed by Bree.
“Dude, why are you just sitting there?” Leo asked. “You usually don’t shy away from trying to show everyone else up.”
“I feel like I’m being stabbed,” Spin replied weakly.
“What?” Leo asked. “Where? Why? When?” If Spin didn’t know any better, he’d think Leo was concerned, but he did know better. Despite that, he moved his legs down and pressed against his lower stomach.
“Right here. I don’t know why, and since this morning when I woke up.”
“Maybe we should get you over to the infirmary,” Bree suggested, squatting down, starting to try to help Spin up.
“Yeah, we should also look at the bleeding,” He said, getting up.
“Bleeding?!” Leo asked, reaching toward Spin's stomach before being slapped away. “You’re not bleeding,” He said.
“Not there,” Spin said, annoyed.
“Oh,” Bree said. “I… huh, wait, that makes no sense,” She said, confused.
“Yeah, I know, bleeding isn’t really normal,” Spin said. “I’m pretty sure people don’t just wake up bleeding.”
“Well, guys don’t,” She said with a laugh. Leo laughed weakly, getting the joke, but not being the right audience for it. But Spin felt like crying because of it. So much so that his eyes did start watering, but he just blinked it away. “Woah, Spin, are you okay?” Bree asked. “I was joking, you know about periods,” She said nervously. “Haha, funny, monthly pain,” She said.
“What?” Spin croaked, extremely confused. “What the hell’s a period?” He asked. Leo laughed nervously and started backing away.
“Welp, I don’t wanna be here for this conversation. Good luck, Bree,” He said. He patted her shoulder before dashing off to join Adam in some sort of bro-down. Bree rolled her eyes.
“Here, I’ll tell you while we walk to the infirmary,” She said, motioning for Spin to start walking with her, and he did.
They got a few steps away from everyone else before Bree spoke up again.
“So, uh, once a month, us girls get this thing called a period,” She said awkwardly. “We bleed out of our uh,” She motioned downward, “And get really bad cramps and generally feel like death. Comes with mood swings too, super fun,” She said sarcastically.
“That sounds like what I’m going through,” Spin said with a weak laugh. ‘Us girls.’
“Oh,” Bree said, turning to walk into the infirmary. “I thought you were a guy,” She said, motioning for Spin to sit up on the gurney.
“I am a guy,” Spin managed to get out, his voice cracking badly, feeling like crying.
“Woah, Spin, it’s okay,” She said. “Are you okay?”
“No,” He said quietly. She took a deep breath.
“Okay, I’m going to ask you something really really weird, but just… go with it, okay?” She requested. Spin looked taken back, so Bree quickly tacked on “It might help figure out what’s wrong.”
“Okay,” He said quietly.
“Do you or do you not have, a uh…” She cleared her throat. “A wang?” She asked quietly, her voice squeaking.
“A what?” Spin asked.
“Like, a dick,” She said, getting to the point. Spin shifted nervously in his seat.
“Uh…” He started quietly. “No,” He mumbled.
“Oh,” Bree said. “Okay,” She said. “Well, uh, I can help with what’s going on then, because it’s probably a period,” She said with a nervous laugh. “And I don’t have to tell anyone else if you don’t want me to,” She said.
“Please don’t,” Spin whimpered.
“Okay, I won’t,” She said. “It’ll be our little secret. I’ll help you with the period stuff, don’t worry. And you don’t have to train for the week if you’re not feeling up to it,” She said.
“The week?” Spin asked, confused.
“Yeah, it uh,” She cleared her throat. “This lasts all week,” She said. Spin finally broke. He started crying. This pain, this discomfort, this dysphoria. All week. Bree wrapped her arms around Spin, which did help a bit. “It’s okay, Spin,” She said. “This dumb thing, it doesn’t make you any less of a man,” She said. “And I’ll help you through it.”
“Thanks, Bree,” He said as she pulled away.
“I don’t know a lot about trans people, but I’ll do some research and come back with anything I think might be helpful,” She said. Spin tilted his head.
“What’s a trans person?”
“A trans person is someone like you,” She said. “Like, born in the wrong body. You’re a guy, but you were born in a ‘female’ body,” She said, using air quotes. “There are plenty of people like you, don’t worry,” She said. “And there’s nothing wrong with it. And there are ways to deal with it.”
“Okay,” Spin said quietly. “I’m sorry,” He said. “I don’t mean to inconvenience you,” He said. Bree sighed with a small, lighthearted laugh.
“Aw, Spin!” She said, ruffling his hair. “You’re not inconveniencing me,” She said. “I’m your mentor, and I want to help,” She said genuinely. “I’m happy to help. And I’ll keep your secret, don’t worry. You don’t have to tell people if you don’t want to,” She said again.
