The summer before high school, Esther Chen's mom signs her up to volunteer for a program as a pen pal with senior citizens at a nearby nursing home. It’s the last thing Esther wants to do; she’s more interested in spending countless hours reading at the local library and trying to make friends with the new girl in the neighborhood, Morgan. But after the first few letters, Esther realizes her new pen pal is mistaking Esther for her own estranged granddaughter, and recruiting Morgan’s help, begins fabricating memories to write about. But as the letters get harder and harder to write, the relationships in Esther’s life also begin to change unexpectedly, from family tension to a crush on the girl down the street to Vi—the mysterious but real granddaughter Esther is pretending to be.

anastasia has been my favorite movie since i was little and the musical.. i die for the musical.. the fact that its closing on broadway l i t e r a l l y broke my heart (i was lucky enough to get tickets back when it first opened and it was. so beautiful. the costumes are breathtaking and VERY sparkly. also i cried within like the first two minutes of the show starting)
