c: I've been wanting to revisit Transducer for a while and add a few little things... it's going great. I'm expanding the epilogue to give more post-ending deets... intensifying the offensive language from the haters... adding more yiddish words to newt's dialogue... yee
In the world of engineering, few innovations have silently shaped our world as profoundly as ultrasonic transducers.
These remarkable instruments, called ultrasonic transducers, utilize the potential of sound waves beyond the reach of our hearing.
They possess a rich history interwoven with scientific exploration and technological progress.
In this article, we embark on a journey into the intricacies of their operation and the radiated fields they produce. Read More about U
Actually not temp, i have to leave this here bc i have no idea how else to process this haha.
Transducer Fic Rec and Review:
I usually don’t make posts myself, but I can’t concentrate until I talk about this fic I read? I’ve never read from this author before but they seemed to be a fan favorite and I understand why. This ending up being One of my favorite fics of all time, I’ve always thought the best fics are the ones where the author has a vast knowledge or hobby that they share through the story, normally spies and historical AUs aren’t my thing, I’d never search for it specifically but their headliner was cute and a little humorous.

I promise not to spoil anything but if you haven’t read it yet a small summary in the author's words : “Newt and Hermann are the secret stars of the crypto tech laboratory in the Division. But a strange new case reopens a classified file nearly ten years old—Hermann’s first and last foray into the field. What is this new technology? What really happened ten years ago? Is there a double agent in their midst? Newt is in danger from all sides, including himself, and Hermann must unravel the case before time runs out. Brought to you by too many John le Carré books & too much daydreaming time in studio classes.” Takes place through two plot lines from 1962-1973
So my in depth review starting with the relationship aspect:bNow if the only reason you’re looking for a fic is for some fluffy feel good, you might find this story to be lacking. N/H is an established relationship but one of the things I admired the most in the historical aspect, is that their relationship wasn’t used as a subject for homophobia, it wasn’t a plot device. It also wasn’t ignored! But due to the fact that the relationship had to remain secret you aren't gonna get a lot of PDA or signs of affections. ((Although, notably chapter three is so domestic and adorable I had to put it down)). Overall I found the relationship very cute and fulfilled, but it’s not the focus of the story alone.
Honestly I found myself feeling a bit of jealousy over the authors writing and plot skills. Personally I live for decent world building and as I stated before I’ve never really given much thought to stories set in the mid 20th century, or spies but when authors write subjects they’re fans of themselves it often shines through giving life to the story, I know almost nothing about surveillance devices and deciphering (other than having watched The Imitation Game) but the writing style explains everything I needed to know in an engaging way (and I didn’t even need to learn Cold War politics!) There are several characters introduced between the two plot lines but there was enough repetition that it was easy to keep them seperate in my mind and was predictable but constantly adding new information so it was never boring.
If you read this entire review please message me and I’ll be your best friend, I could probably write a review as long as the story itself. Mostly I think I envy how well this was written, I myself struggle with finding my own style. The well rounded characters, the way the two plot lines entertained almost completely. The seamless world building added flavor to the story rather than just an info dump.
rediscovering my newt/hermann notes for cold war crypto au… wow i miss them.
purgatory prayer 2.0 the apocalypse world remix certainly sounds like a fun ride, godspeed.. I'd love to hear what THAT SCENE in transducer and pareidolia was :-)
Transducer: Chapter 8, walking through London while Hermann retells what happened to him 10y earlier, and Chapter 13, testing out the device; I also wrote the epilogue pretty far in advance, I knew I wanted to end it with Newt looking for aliens while Hermann waited at home worrying about it (and the Cait/Kate maneuver, if you’ve read TTSS you know what i’m talkin about).
Pareidolia: Chapter 14, Hermann’s house, boy in the pool convo, + stopping the recording. for suuure, I wrote that shit while I was still on like, chapter 3. (My first draft was much more angsty.) That whole conversation in Strand’s house is my absolute fave part of TBTP, so when I got the idea to write this ridiculous crossover to amuse my friends, that scene was The Thing I wanted to get to.
