ok ok ok so here's my idea of the over-world layout:

the game takes place around an abandoned mining outpost. the various buildings/refining equipment are tucked up under a cliff overhang (inspired by Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde) which provides coverage from acid rain and spy drones. the farm is located on the outskirts of the outpost past the mercury well (used for mining purposes but now it's just for fishing), though I can't decide how the farm will escape spy drone notice if it's out in the open.

There's a forest on top of the cliff, further helping to hide the outpost. The player can tap the solar trees during Dawn and Sun months for energon, like maple syrup, and that's all I've thought about that area for right now lmao

A river of heavy gases cascades from a waterfall into the Aragon Sea, an area that can be explored like the mine but only after the player has unlocked some sort of travel device.

The massive open mining pit is located to the south and while everything above ground is mined out, there's a small entrance at the bottom of the pit that leads even deeper underground that hasn't been tapped of resources. this is where you can stumble across an npc that is immersant (possibly a miner that was trapped?) and you can convince them to emerge and join the outpost.
