Following the 2018 reinstatement of N.E.S.T., William Lennix has arranged holiday parties yearly. Will plans a party for Halloween, even though it’s often considered a children’s holiday. Most people enjoy these gatherings, except for Jamie. Everyone knows Jamie doesn’t like parties, even informal ones with friends. “This is what I hate,” Will tells Optimus Prime. “It’ll be good for her to be with friends, but if Crosshairs and Drift must force Jamie to the mess hall…” “I know. It’s a balance. One we have yet to understand.” “Even if these events don’t cause anxiety attacks, I still don’t like the idea of making her attend.”
October twenty-fifth — the night of the party. Crosshairs and Drift’s holoforms sit on either side of Jamie as the three sit on a bed in the shared bedroom. The mechs had to encourage her to attend the party. A few minutes pass, Lily, and the Autobot terror twins, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, stop by. The twins’ holoforms and Lily stand in front of the other three. Sideswipe tells Jamie they can get lots of candy, which Lily finds funny and Sunstreaker dislikes. “Yes, because you hyped on sugar like the Earth kids is fun,” Sunstreaker says in a sarcastic tone. “At least Lily doesn’t get hyper.” Sideswipe picks Jamie up and leaves the room. Jamie says anything, but the other four are worried. They follow Sideswipe.
The four enter the mess hall and sit at a table. Jamie sits on Sideswipe’s lap. They look around the decorated mess hall. “I still can’t get used to how Lennox throws parties,” Sunstreaker comments. “It’s not unheard of in the military,” Lily says. “Yeah, yeah, I know.” The five sit in silence, watching the soldiers who came to the party, whether with their families or alone.
After a while, Jamie gets off Sideswipe’s lap. She says nothing as she walks away. The others follow her. Sideswipe smiles when he realizes where she’s going. “Of course, the deserts,” Drift smiles. “How about dinner first?” They proceed toward the other food table. Each grabs a plate and fills it with food. Jamie and Lily are both loading chicken tenders and fries onto their plates. Sunstreaker likes that there is steak. Crosshairs and Sideswipe make cheeseburgers. Drift makes a chicken sandwich. “No sushi for you,” Crosshairs smiles. “Yeah, yeah,” Drift says. They all return to the table.
As they eat, Drift sees that some games are set up. Crosshairs sees what Drift is looking at and mentions the games to the others. Everyone but Jamie is interested in checking out the hames. She would rather leave, but says nothing. After finishing dinner, the five friends go check out the Games. Crosshairs, Drift, Lily, and the twins know Jamie will like the games.
The group watches a group of soldiers laughing at a soldier trying to eat a donut tied to a string without their hands. They see that the games aren’t specific to adults. “I suppose it’s difficult to find adult-only games,” Crosshairs says. “Other than ones involving alcohol.” “That might happen later,” Drift comments. “Count me in,” Crosshairs smiles. For now, the friends join in the donut-eating game. Then they find the pumpkin carving table.
The pumpkin carving takes some time. Once they finish, they find the candy. Sideswipe is not pleased to see Ironhide and Hound’s holoforms standing guard. “Really?” He asks. “Yeah, really,” Ironhide says. “Primarily because of the few children present, however, I’ll add it’s because of you.” The others laugh. They all grab some candy. Both Jamie and Sideswipe get yelled at for taking too much. “Go! You two can take what’s left after the party,” Hound says. Jamie and Sideswipe attempt to sneak more candy before being forced away. Lily laughs, but also would have loved to join in the fun.
Jamie, Lily, and Sideswipe return to the mess hall a couple of hours later to stock up on what’s left of the candy and desserts. Several other Autobots also desire some. This displeases Sunstreaker. He’s not looking forward to dealing with Lily and Sideswipe on sugar. “You two can stay with Crosshairs, Drift, and Jamie,” he declares and walks away. Lily and Sideswipe laugh.
Later that night, Crosshairs and the twins are informed of a drinking game. The Halloween twist is the color of the alcohol, and everyone watches Halloween movies. “Whoever gets drunk first owes everyone else twenty bucks,” Ironhide says. “Also, anyone who can’t get out of bed tomorrow because of a hangover owes everyone fifty bucks.” “What the hell, Ironhide?” Hound says. “What? It’s part of the fun of the game.” “At least it’s just the three of us,” Crosshairs says. “Because everyone else has no sense of fun,” Ironhide complains. “Or doesn’t feel like going broke,” Hound argues.
By the end, Ironhide is the one who’s drunk first. “Good thing we have video evidence,” Hound says. “Otherwise, he might try to argue his way out of owing us money.” “Oh yeah,” Crosshairs agrees. “I think he’ll owe us more money come morning.” The two laugh and finish their drinks.
