I think the favorite thing I liked added in the Netflix trilogy, for story characters or lore , which I’d love to see expanded in a longer story arc, is starscream ‘s direction in kingdom - specifically with unicron

We’ve seen how Megatron is bent to Unicron’s will time and time again - but how would others deal with that lovecraftian decimator?

How would starscream deal with unicron if Megatron can not? The answer: very poorly

Kinda a perfect lovecraft character arc tbh

Starscream seized the golden disc to get a leg up on Megatron - trying to exploit this forbidden knowledge, finds out that Megatron is dominated by unicron - but while starscream is done with the info, the info isn’t done with him

Unicron pulls starscream back in, and tells him scary scary things while presumably doing scary things to him

Afterwards, poor starscream is fundamentally Changed - his worldly ambitions, the war, none of it matters in the face of Unicron!

He tries to even surrender and give the disc to the autobots, so shaken that he’s forced to abandon all pretense and pride - saying to bumblebee along the lines that he admits he and the decepitcons are too weak and evil to hold this power and only the autobots can be trusted

“I…I…I…KNOW how this looks. I know, I know, I KNOW. Please. After everything we’ve been through, we as a species, all this war, all this death….what if was all by design?”

“I’m NOT CRAZY. We don’t have much time. He can see us. The one who has done this to us. Please…I’m not…I’m not strong enough. He knows that. But You, you and the autobots are the FUTURE. It belongs in your capable hands

And after bumblebee thinks it’s a trick and breaks it - Starscream loses it and gets doomer pilled lol

But he ends up successfully turning against Megatron and get him captured by the autobots to prevent his contribution as Galvatron , but first he desperately tries to convince Megatron to see the bigger threat

“You HAVE to stop! This is just what [unicron] wants! Death , death, and more DEATH!”

“[Unicron] thinks I’ll just let this all happen….he thinks that I’m weak…but I’m NOT. I’m not just another victim. I can do what has to be done. I can FLY”

Then he rams into Megatron, knocking him into lava - or trying to. Anyways - I’ll skip the whole to do with the last episode, but Megatron and other bots at a nexus point against the heralds of Unicron; Nemesis Prime and Galvatron, and ends up defeating them and not playing into Unicron’s “hands”

Day is saved, and an uneasy truce is reached between factions

And later, after the sweet, the end is bitter - poor starscream is still out of sorts . The victory is deflated by how damaged, terrified and sad he is!!

“I … still hear him, You know…unicron. Even without the disc. He is … displeased”

Poor starscream is a mad prophet, torn apart by cursed knowledge, and stained by it forever afterwards - abandoning his worldly ambition in face of this impossible, otherworldly terror!

Starscream x lovecraft never thought I wanted it lol

I really like it! It’s an interesting exploration of a dynamic previously exclusive to Megatron , and showing the huge disparity between starscream and unicron - and utilizes starscreams normal dynamics and traits into such an overcharged way he’s burned out, and basically forces him to move past them and becomes a mad prophet of peace

And then it’s just so sad : (

But I’d love to see this beat tackled again in the future!

Although mainframe can't speak, they're the ones who've been telling the stories of the early autobots to the new generation, with push button acting as an interpreter

They've been here the whole time we just didn't see them because you don't get a lot of action when you do your best work behind a keyboard

Mainframe is a close personal friend of jazz and is stationed aboard the apex bomber as the ship's computer, inaccurately refered to as teletron 1. born with a cognitive error, mainframe's hardware is incompatible with the speech synthesis software that the rest of the autobots use, meaning he's mute, and comunicates in his own way, usually with another bot acting as an interpreter.

Although living with a disability isn't easy, mainframe wouldn't trade his experiences for anything, as the life he's lived, unable to express himself verbally has given him a unique perspective which allowed him to excel in places others could not, mainframe is a genius programmer smart enough to improve even vector sigma's programs, he believes that struggles create strong people which is not very autobot of him,

Not fully convinced of the autobot cause, having enjoyed working on the skirts of their territory with jazz for many years, the computer gets a little sassy when it's time for optimus prime to do his taxes not trusting authority, which contrasts push button who would like nothing more than to go into battle with their leader but is stuck working for mainframe who pays a pretty penny to keep her around and keep an eye on his computer screen

The computer in question is teletraan 1

Teletraan is the operating system transformer's brains run on, created by vector sigma. Just because something is standard doesn't mean it can't be improved, t-ai, named after the "transformer artificial intelligence" OS made by mainframe that she runs on, is intended to be the first to benefit from a new teletraan for the modern day but her fast processing speeds makes her frustated when other bots can't think as fast as she does
