Regrann from @birthdaypresence - My blog response (link in profile) to the news that @mountsinainyc is closing the Birthing Center in January. The closure of this #birthcenter is devastating to the #nyc community at large. NYC, one of the least progressive places in the country to give birth, has so few options for #lowintervention #birth already. We hope that the hospital will instead consider becoming a leader in the birth field and instead expand the birth center, truly utilize it and make it accessible to all parents, including those parents on public insurance who are clinic patients. We recognize that private rooms will be more profitable and that systemic problems with #healthcare influence these decisions, but we urge you to reconsider and to ensure that we all have options when it comes to #birth. . . What can you do? . 1. Tag a doula, a reporter or blogger you know, anyone who may soon become a parent in New York, or someone who birthed at the birth center. . 2. Call the patient reps at the hospital at 212-523-7225 and tell them why you think the birth center should remain open.
