Person A is a fairy who’s lived so long and started collecting languages as a hobby, and now in the modern era is able to speak an insane number of languages, and they run a small niche social media/blog where they translate anything people send to them. One day, they get approached by Person B, a very wealthy individual who wants to hire Person A for their talents - specifically they want Person A to travel with them and be their personal translator for their work.
“Are you sure they’ll like me?”
“Sehun, don’t be ridiculous, you have nothing to worry about.”
“Y/N, I don’t even speak their language!”
“That’s why I’m here.”
You jumped a few steps away from Sehun, hands on your hips and your head held high.
“Your personal translator.”
Sehun’s shoulders shifted as the corners of his mouth turned upwards, amused (and slightly embarrassed) by your declaration.
You took Sehun’s hand in one of your own, ready to walk up the driveway of your parent’s house, when you found yourself trying to pull dead weight behind you.
You looked over your shoulder at your boyfriend, still completely apprehensive.
You realized now that Sehun’s doubt was more deeply rooted than you originally thought. He had been so excited when his schedule lined up with an anniversary that brought along a family reunion, the perfect opportunity to introduce your loved ones to the man you had been dating for nearly two years.
The language barrier on top of the endless amount of miles between our residences (and the fact that Sehun was an international celebrity) had prevented you from convincing Sehun to visit home with you on the rare occasions that you could make it.
Family was extremely important to you and you weren’t going to settle for flying your parents out to South Korea for a weekend when there were still grandparents and cousins and siblings that had yet to meet your charming boyfriend.
Now that your hopes had finally fallen into place, you were upset that Sehun wasn’t as excited as you were.
“I’m sorry, Y/N, this is just so much for me. I’ve never been in this situation-”
“I’ve met your parents, Sehun. I was in the same situation-”
“No you weren’t!” Even though he raised his voice, you knew Sehun wasn’t doing it out of anger. “You speak Korean, you’re fluent! I could probably manage to introduce myself in English and that’s it.”
You smiled up at Sehun, your hands still intertwined.
“That’s all you need to say. I can do the rest.”
You rose on your toes to place a soft kiss on Sehun’s cheek, aware that it was his weakness.
He loved your kisses.
You received a smile in return which you took as the go-ahead to resume your steps up the driveway with the love of your life right at your heels.
You heard the squeals of children after Sehun rang the doorbell, quickly explaining to him that your nieces and nephews have always been easily excitable.
“Hey guys! Look who I brought,” you gestured to the man next to you.
“Is this the Chinese boy you always talk about?”
“He’s Korean, love.”
“He’s handsome, Y/N.”
You giggled at your niece’s bickering and statement that you definitely agreed with.
“They think you’re cute,” you whispered to Sehun, giggling again at the way he blushed.
The children acted as you and Sehun’s entourage as you made you way into the kitchen, where your parents were working together to finish the meal everyone would be sharing in an hour or so.
You went over introductions with your mother, then your father, gesturing for Sehun to take his turn.
“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Y/L/N. I am Oh Se-”
“Sehun!”
Your mother threw the towel that was draped across her shoulder on the kitchen counter and bolted over to your boyfriend.
Sehun rose from his ninety-degree bow just quick enough to return your mother’s hug, blushing an even deeper red than before once two kisses were placed on his cheeks.
Your father smiled at the meeting and awkwardly shook Sehun’s hand, a bit difficult seeing as how Sehun was still wrapped in your mother’s arms.
You ushered your boyfriend into the living room to see everyone else after receiving your own hugs and kisses from your parents, Sehun standing to the side as he fiddled with his hands nervously.
Once you returned to his side he instantly reached for your hand to ease his anxiety, relaxing instantly once you took his hand after the two of you ended up in front of the rest of your family.
You went back and forth with introductions and small talk, translating what one said to another all while explaining familial inside jokes to Sehun after your family quickly warmed up to the man you had brought home.
You were in the middle of translating a story your grandfather had been explaining about you and one of your cousins as children when Sehun leaned in to whisper in your ear, despite no one being able to listen in regardless.
“Do you think our wedding vows should be in English or Korean?”
You stopped mid-sentence, mouth parted as you stared at Sehun in shock and confusion.
“Say that again?”
“When I get on my knee in a second, will you translate my proposal or will the ring say enough?”
“Sehun, stop joking around,” your heart began to flutter from behind your ribcage.
“If you won’t answer my questions, I’ll just have to see myself.”
Sehun dropped onto the floor in front of you, one knee bent onto the ground with his elbow resting on his free leg.
With a velvet box in one hand, your hand in the other, Sehun began reciting the words he had been practicing in his head the whole car ride here, reciting the words that had been the real reason he had been so nervous all day.
There was no need to translate his speech or your response.
The kiss that you planted on his lips was enough of an explanation, along with the new diamond ring your family had witnessed being placed on your finger.
“Get out the champagne!” Your aunt announced.
Even Sehun understood her excitement, smiling along with the rest of your family.
His family.

Person A is a god who has been so frequently summoned as a babysitter by various beings and humans with magic, that no one even remembers they were once a powerful god. But their specific skill sets, which were once greatly admired and worshiped for their vast and impressive knowledge have been replaced by translators of hire or computer programs. Person A can understand what anyone is saying or trying to communicate, due to this they make a very good caregiver to young children who can’t yet speak, and children who continue to be nonverbal. Person B is a nonverbal teen whose family kept summoning Person A to watch them throughout their childhood because they were such a difficult child and their parents never cared to take the time to learn to communicate with and work with Person B, so now Person B only really recognizes Person A as their caregiver. Person A doesn’t really mind, since Person B is good company and clever for their age, and Person A has spent so long with much younger kids that having someone Person B’s age is a nice reprieve. But Person B knows when they reach adulthood, their parents will likely stop summoning Person A and just send Person B off to some more permanent care place, so Person B try to persuade Person A to take them back to their realm with them.
Person A is someone who helped out a fairy as a child and was given the blessing to be able to learn any language they wanted to incredibly quickly, regardless of lack of resources or if the language is dead or any other barriers to learning it - the only rule is that Person A needs to see the writing or hear someone speak it. Now as an adult, Person A uses this as a party trick more than anything. But one day, Person A gets approached by a government agent who wants Person A to help them translate a recently discovered language. Person A thinks it will be one of the old languages they learned for fun as a kid and agrees since they’re always eager to show off, but upon seeing/hearing the messages realizes that it’s an alien language. At first, Person A is excited to have such a challenge and to see if their blessing works on it, but as they start to learn and quickly understand the language, they start to realize that this request/job might be more dangerous than they originally thought, and it’s far too late to back out. Which they realize after they come face to face with Person B, the trapped alien that the government is keeping, and who Person A can perfectly understand can’t help but empathize with.
