Transplanted in VA Part 2 & Moundies
Have I mentioned that we get two weeks of spring break? It’s amazing. But unlike my first week, this week is not jam-packed with activities, instead I am spending most of my time at work and doing homework. Hooray?
I mean I will be going into the city later in the week, but this week is about finishing all of the items on my to-do list and making as much money as possible by sitting in an empty computer lab.
Anyway that’s not the point of this post - this post is about everything that happened after last weeks post up until today. And there’s a lot to talk about.
On Tuesday, I dropped 200 pounds of sheetrock debris on my ankle and bruised it terribly. Nevertheless I worked through the pain and got to hike in a beautiful park called Belle Isle. It’s always fund to learn the history of these locations. Like how I got to learn about Belle Isle being a POW camp during the Civil War. Then, on Wednesday, we finally got to go out to work on a house! We built a deck and started putting up insulation around the exterior. That was a lot of fun. Finally, on Friday, we got let out early because of rain, so we got to go to an art museum and get donuts. All in all it was a good week; even though I complained before I really did enjoy the trip.
Yesterday I got to be reunited with my high school friends. The band and choir were touring New York and I stopped by to see them. Unfortunately the best time for me to visit because of Virginia was when they were at the 9/11 museum. So while I was saying, “Oh my god it’s so good to see you,” I was also thinking, “This is so sad; I still can’t believe this happened.”
Then, after what has to be my worst experience on the subway, I met back up with them in Chinatown. Everything is so cheap there. And delicious. I got fried rice for $6 and a Persian scarf for $5. Then we went over to Little Italy quickly and I tried a cannoli for the first time. Mmm, it was heavenly.
So that’s what I’ve been up to. Hopefully next week I’ll have something more topic-oriented versus diary like to write about, but I hope this was at least interesting. This weekend Leah and I will be going to the MoMa, Central Park, and to see a play, and then another day I’m going to the Guggenheim with my roommate, Clara, so maybe I’ll write about art in the city? Who knows. Please send us a message if you want to hear more about certain things going on or have any recommendation for things to do.
